Default How do you use Joiwhip?

Hi all!

I just purchased some Joiwhip, from all the rave reviews I heard about it here, plus I remember using it pre-CG when it was Joico IceWhip and really liking it, however, now that I am CG, I am wondering how I should apply it?

Is it a styler to use WITHOUT any gel? Do I need to layer it with anything? How is the hold factor? How much should I use--about the same as I would my gel?

Should I apply it to soaking wet hair, scrunching it in (as I would my gel)?

Sorry so many questions--Just want to maximize the benefits I get from this awesome stuff. Thanks!!

I use it the same way as I would use a gel. The hold is pretty strong. I use it in soaking wet hair over a leave-in and/or recoil. I find it's easier to distribute than gel. I smooth it over the top and bottom of my hair and then scrunch it into the ends. I hope you like it!

Thanks for the reply Bailey.

So it holds as well as a gel?

Do you find it leaves any flakiness or residue after it's dry?

Thanks!

I would say it holds as well as B&A or Aura hypoallergenic, but not as well as say BRHG or Abba Weightless. It dries crunchy, but the crunch is easier to scrunch out than most gels. It doesn't leave residue on my hair at all, in fact it makes my hair very shiny.

I found the Aura to have not quite enough hold for me.

What do recommend I do to get a stronger hold? Apply a lot? Or maybe add a dollop of gel to it?

Sorry if I'm being annoying! Thanks so much for your help!

I think applying extra would help with hold. When I put in a ton, it cements some of my hair in place, and I really have to scrunch hard to get out the crunch. Everyone's hair is different, though, so you may not have the same result. HTH

I'm 3b and I like joiwhip. It doesn't have enough hold, so I scrunch in some gel on top after applying the joiwhip. I mostly use BRHG, but I've been trying it with lighter hold gels like Suave aloe or Tizz No Frizz. I like the BRHG the best.

Thanks Curlyjenn! I took your advice and tried it today. I am currently airdrying.

In about 7 hours when it's dry I'll let you all know how it turned out!

Thanks again for all your helpful replies!

Be careful about applying too much - a little goes a long way and when I use too much my hair feels kind of gunky.

Slight guano.

Abstar -

Do you use the Climate Control Gel alone or mixed with another gel? I've been thinking about trying my Ouidad products again because I have too much frizz using Joiwhip over my leave-in.

I don't mix it with anything but I do use it over re:coil. I LOVE this gel...I have literally NO frizz!!! (I never dreamed I would pay this much for a hair product though... but it's worth it!)

love joiwhip. love love love.

I use it pretty much like a gel. I still have to use a pretty large amount even with its strong hold because my hair is pretty near un-tameable. It smells sooooo goooooood. Oh and the other thing I love about this mousse is when I rinse my hair in the shower, before I put any 'poo or condish in at all, my hair feels really smooth and easy to untangle, almost like I've already used condish.

Hi all--just a update on the Joiwhip: my hair turned out great!

I mixed it with a little B2B curl activating gel and my hair came out very ringletty and soft-looking with nice hold! The clump factor was excellent and my hair had no frizz!!!

In fact, my 2nd day hair looked good too!

I am looooooving this stuff!!
