I give up on drugstore conditioners (rant)

With all these great reformulations, I was hoping I'd find a good drugstore conditioner. No such luck! I tried the new Aussie moist (ugh, don't see what's moist about it, definitely not my hair), Aussie 3 MM (once again dryness), and L'Oreal Nutrigloss for curly/long hair. The nutrigloss was the best, but after using it 2 days in a row, I always got massive frizz. So I'm done. Drugstore co's suck!

I hear ya and unfortunately, I agree!
3B, with oodles and oodles of curly hair!
Summer Faves: Devacare NoPoo & OneC, CF High Humidity Gel.
2nd day hair: Deva Set Me Up pomade & Mr. Right
DT: Devacurl Heaven in Hair
Been CG since 2005 and never looked back!
Same here. I have yet to find one that will detangle my thick rat's nest. Unfortunately, the only ones that work really well at detangling my rat's nest are the expensive stuff.
"Wonder Twin Powers, Activate! "
I've found only one exception to the you get what you pay for rule and that is TJ Nourish. Suave Citrus Smoothie was very promising in terms of moisture and detangling, but it stripped my color and has too strong a fragrance.

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.
Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.
Yup, it's inconvenient and frustrating but I'm pretty much limited to the health food store and Ulta at this point. Wouldn't be so bad if I had one anywere around here!

I just don't get it. Activate and LaCoupe conditioners (Ulta) are $7 and are both excellent, but the $5 L'Oreal Nutrigloss (which is expensive for DS) is total crap. You would think there would be some sliding scale in quality as you go up/down in price, but there seems to be a huge quality gap in there. I swear, next time I'm in Orlando or Tampa, I am raiding their Ulta.

I completely hear ya! I had high hopes for the Aussie condishes, but they weren't enough moisture for me. I could get away with using the Moist in a pinch for a day or so, but it really wasn't all that "moist" to me. Ironically, before cyclopentasiloxane was added (when the bottles moved from tan to purple), the tan bottle's Moist wasn't enough moisture for me either.

I wish LaCoupe was more widely available. It's a Canadian brand, so I guess I should consider myself lucky we get it at all.
Add me to the list as well, with the exception of Activate, which is so hard o find anyway.

Oooh, yeah that Orlando Ulta is what got me hooked. The one in Charleston, SC isn't nearly as good, unfortunately.

I haven't tried the new Aussie Moist but I do remember the pre-xane formula didn't do it for me either. Now the Real Volume... I'd kill to get my hands on an old bottle of that.

I don't really consider Activate a drugstore product becuase the only place I can find it is Ulta. Love it though.

I have 3b curls and the best conditioner for me has been l'oreal colorvive for dry hair. I've been using this before I dyed my hair(it's gentle) since I was 13. I haven't found anything yet that works as well..including non drugstore stuff.
i totally agree with you -aussie moist? what moist?!?

my hair is super picky -i am extremely protein sensitive and my hair gets dry easily. i also totally avoid the cyclo cone -which is hard to do these days. i tried tons of drugstore conditioners and none of them really work for my hair.

anyway, the only drugstore conditioner (besides suave, VO5)that doesnt frizz out/dry out/freak out my hair and gives me good slip/detangling is garnier fructis long and strong or GF for dry/damaged. it does have a cone (iirc amodimethicone), but if i use it short term, it doesnt bother my hair. the only time i had problems with GF conditioners is when i used them exclusively for months straight. i am not sure what caused the sudden dryness/build up -which resulted everytime i used it again...even after i clarified.
WHY, oh WHY don't I have an Ulta??!!

OMG, LOOK!!

...It's a siggie.
I agree!! While I can get away with ds stuff in high summer, I can't the rest of the year. If anything actually does have some moisture, like Activate, it's bound to have proteins, so it'll make me dry anyway. Or, the moisture comes from being 'cone laden. Blah.

I guess I'm the odd one, but my hair loves both the Aussie Moist and L'oreal Nutri-gloss Conditioner! The Aussie is better, and I don't have to use a leave in which is a good thing for me.

I've given up. There will probably never be that One Miracle Product that will make my hair fabulous and obediant- drugstore or high end. I've found my hair responds to me switching products often. I do have my "top 5" that are in steady rotation. I try to make up for their defeciencies with the other products-leave in and styling creme/gel.
