Default Any recs? I'm new to CK...

I bought a bottle of CK from a fellow curly and I'm wondering how I should use it. The North Carolina humidity is brutal and I'm trying to be proactive this year. My usual routine is TJ as a leave-in and 3 parts aloe vera gel, 1 part Citre Shine Curl Booster gel on top. Should I use the CK over the aloe vera gel, or skip the gel altogether. I'm actually using the av gel as a leave-in too...its pretty moisturizing thus far. Also, I like to break up the crunch that gel leaves behind. If I break up the crunch of the CK will that render it powerless against the humidity?

Thanks in advance!

I would use the CK first on your hair so that it's the primary sealant and definer. No, scrunching out the crunch will not get rid of it's effectiveness. I could not live without this product. I use it under Devacurl Angell and get great results. I could also use it alone if I didn't need to worry about 2nd day hair. I only use the gel for hold and the way it smells! CK does all my defining, frizz control and humidity blocking.

I don't have the same hair type as you, but I LOVE CK!! It's my heat & humidity fighting staple! Yesterday, my hair looked 3x it's normal size This morning, I applied my CK (I comb it through & let it set for a few minutes to set), then scrunched in my gel.

My frizz has turned to spirals, thank goodness!! I've even been touching my hair a lot this AM & no frizz. I swear by this stuff for frizz in the heat & humidity - a definite *can't live without* product for me! I definitely use a gel over it for hold, but I don't ever remember trying it by itself - maybe another experiment for the weekend

I use CK too when the weather is warmer. I, personally, have the best results using it as the *last* thing I put on my hair. Meaning, I put on my curl enhancer first (usually Recoil or RR), gel (usually B&A) and scrunch, and then smooth CK over the top of my hair. It seems to "seal" my hair and keep the humidity out.

It works for me when I put it on first, but just not as well. Of course, everyone is different.

Vaneda - I'll have to try it as the *last* item, too, just for the heck of it

Thanks

I'm not much help, but I'm anxious to hear what others have to say. I'm in NC also, and traveling to Florida in May *gasp, the humidity* - I just ordered some CK from CurlMart so I'm hoping it will keep me from wearing a ponytail for 5 straight days.

I've always used it first on soaking wet hair.
Then apply curl enhancing and/or gel.
But I'm going to try it last.

Those of you who apply CK before gel, do you use a leave in? Under or over the CK?

I had pretty good results with it last Summer (over leave in, under gel), but the last bunch of times I've used it I've gotten really stringy results.

Hi,
I have DRY thick 3B curls and CK is my absolute G!! I apply condish, then CK, then my gel. It definitely defines and keeps frizz at bay!

I can't use a leave-in under it - my hair will get greasy looking & limp I just use the CK, then gel

I have been known to mix CK and gel together in a bottle, kind of like an emulsion. I find it easier to apply that way. I find that doing that with almost any thick gel works really well.

I apply over or under product it really depends on what I'm using with the CK. But if it's under, I use a leave-in first so my hair won't absorb too much CK and get crunchety or stringy/piecey curls. I've used it with Milkshake (CK over), Curls Whipped Cream (over and under), Blended Beauty Curl Styling butter (CK over), homemade frizz pudding (CK over). When over, it usually takes the place of a gel.

For summer I will probably try it in some new combos:
under AO Mandarin Magic jelly
over B'leave in
with Confident Coils

I normally use underneath my other products. Depending on what I'm using with it, sometimes it works better as the last layer. Sometimes I use it as a refresher, I wet my hands and smooth a little CK over my hair. Also, when it's humid enough to use CK I don't need a leave-in.
