Default OMG! I have a SHAG haircut!

I got my hair cut Saturday. I decided to go to someone new. I told her "long layers" and to cut off about an inch. I don't think I ended up with "long" layers and I'm sure she cut off more than 1 inch on the top layer. Basically, I ended up with a 1970's shag! The shortest layer, when stretched out goes to the bottom of my ear lobe. The length between the shortest layer and the longest layer is probably 4 inches.

The good news is I don't think it's that bad. It definitely got rid of any triangle head I was beginning to get. Other than not being as bushy, it's about the same length. I can't get my "bangs" back in a pony tail, though.

I'm stiff a bit miffed because she took off more than I asked her to and didn't do long layers. When I complained, my husband (Mr. "Sympathy") said "well, maybe next time you'll communicate better."

Well, maybe next time I will communicate better. But doesn't the stylist have the duty to communicate with their client? They are the professionals, not me! I mean, why can't they put the scissors down for a few minutes and make sure they understand what you want? "now you want an inch off. This is where an inch will be." or "you said long layers. I understand long layers to be . . . ."

I'm all for suggestions. She might have said something like, "you asked for this, but I think it would look better if we did this instead" and then went on to explain her thoughts. I probably would have said, "go for it," but just to cut with no regard to my instructions still leaves me a bit sour.

Maybe I want too much????

I've put a new pic in my fotki. If I finger comb it out, I sorta look like a 1970's glam rock start. Purple spandex cannot be far behind!

p.s. I guess it's my hair anniversary this month. Two years ago I cut off my thermally straightened hair and started over with my curls. I haven't straightened my hair in these past two years! I can finally say . . .

. . . I like my hair! ( even in a shag! )

That's a nice shape for your face. You have great hair. I must admit, I love picture #29 with the spirals down in front, though. And, btw, the picture of the back appears to be a picture of the front on it's side

As an aside, I have to say what gorgeous eyes you have, too.

Hmmm Maybe they were going for face framing curls? I used to angle my hair toward my face (yeah very 90's I know ) And my grow out is a bit like the layers on the side going into the back.
That's definitely not long layers. That's called lots of layers. I'm growing that out right now.
It looks good though framing your face and your back is sure curly.
I've not had a hairdresser yet that actually gave me the cut that I asked for in great detail. Now and then I get a decent cut but never what I ask for. Which is why I cut my own. At least my cut is free

Happy Anniversary!

I am growing out a cut a lot like yours that worked really well when I wore my hair straight/wavy. Curly-wise it's been kind of rough going but I'm managing. I like the cut! You have such good curl definition!

I agree! Your curls are fabulous and they look good in all those pictures! And I like the new cut, it doesn't take me back to the 70s at all.

And you're MY age, but you look much younger so I am secretly hating you right now. OK it's not a secret. And do you never get frizz, or what?!

LOL at the curliest curl. Mine is on the top on my head and if I scrunch it, it dries sticking straight up.

I think the back looks great and not a shag. Give yourself a few days. It took me a week to like my cut. Getting hair cut is such a distorting experience.

good observation. I think you are right. I did ask for a FEW face framing layers, too. My bang area has a tendency to grow forward and apart from the rest of my hair. But I guess I was hoping for very slight angles, just rounded a bit more around my face.

Still, though, I don't think it is any shorter in the front than in the back. It's just all one short top layer around my entire head. I think I would have like just the bang area cut this short.

Oh well. Like I said, it's not as bad as it could be. I does still see to flow pretty well and even the shortest layer sort of "puzzle pieces" in with the longer layers rather than jutting out. It takes out a lot of the bulk, and with my heavy jaw (I'm sort of a square head) and no forehead, I don't need too much hanging in my face.

I'm not brave enough to cut my hair. Maybe I should attempt it one of these days, though.

thanks. I am going to have to work on keeping that top layer from getting too poofy. You should see it sticking out in the morning when I wake up! I should take a photo!

Gosh, thanks, but you have no reason to be jealous. You have great hair.

Hey, us old gals have to stick together, right?

I do get some frizz, just like anyone with curly hair. Frizz happens! It's just frizz is sometimes hard to capture with my camera. My hair loves humidity & rain, though -- it get more spirally-ier.

Yeah, I'm trying to hold off on my final opinion until the weekend. I also was trying to hold off on posting my complaints. I don't seem to be doing a good job of either. Here I am, whining about my cut!

I'm such a whiner!
