How Do I Get This Look??

I want my hair to be much straighter at the root and curly from mid-point on. I want at least the first 3-inches from the root to be straighter - or wavy. Is there a cream or great product or technique I could employ to get this look?

Also, what's the best product to enhance the occasional limp curl?

When I wore my hair like that I would simply use a big barrel to flip back the sections closer to the top. It worked well! Good luck!

Type: 2c, medium/high porosity, high density, course.
Cleanse: Curls unleashed shampoo
Leave-in: KCKT, Curlsunleashed leave in.
Style: Argan oil
DT: Aussie 3 min. miracle or olive/coconut oil.
After slightly towel drying hair, take a wide-toothed comb and comb some gel or Recoil through your hair. Then take some more gel or mousse and scrunch back in the curl.

I used to do this with Curl Fx Curl Booster gel and the Curl Fx Curl Mousse with really good results. I still do it on occasion with different products.

3A hair; coloring with henna/indigo since July 2009; normally follow the CG method. Still searching for my HG products!

Thank you both for answering!!! I'm SO BAD with experiementing - but I'm going to give both of your suggestions a try. There HAS to be a way for me to wear my hair curly and be happy with it. Right now, it lacks definition, lacks even curl pattern and is frizzy at the top. Annoying!

Kimberlee - by a big barrel? I'm assuming you mean curling iron. I'll try it, but ideally, I'd like to do this without heat....ideally. haha.

thanks again!!

Maybe you could smooth your hair into a few loose ponytails when wet and once dry, take them down? I notice that when I wear my hair in one ponytail, I get stretched(almost straight) hair near the roots and some inches down, but the rest of the hair is still curly. Putting a scarf to smooth is down helps it straighten.
A wonderful mix of coils, curls, corkscrews, and kinks.

That's how I wear my hair these days. This is what I do.
After I shower, I wrap it in a microfiber towel to get most of the moisture out. Then I put in my styling products, for me that a shiner and Joiwhip.
I comb it out. Then I take the hair on each side of my head and twist it around into a fairly tight barrel curl pony tail. So the top is straight and the bottom part is curled. I let it air dry while I'm dressing and eating breakfast. By the time I leave, it's set in that style for the day.
