Default Can I cheat to get volume?

I'm overdue for a haircut. I know this because my hair is laying flat and all limp, and I hate it this way. It's curling fine (actually it curled beautifully today!), but I just can't get any fullness or volume.

Since I don't have the time or extra cash for a haircut right now, and have two big family events coming up for which I'd like to have nice hair... is there anything I can doi to cheat some volume in between now and my next cut?

All I can think of would be to diffuse upside down and Abba Weightless Gel always give me great volume. Don't know if that's any help.

You can always flip your hair upside down (once dry) and tease your roots. That could create some serious tangles though.

I usually upside-down scrunch and fluff a few times a day. It's not helping.

Teasing is a lot more extreme than scrunching or fluffing. It really should do the trick if you're desperate.

How about wearing your hair in an updo for the family events?

If I want a little volume on top, I twirl a few pieces from the front, up and away from my face then clip w/a little claw clip.. call me dated, but I love a bit of height on top of my head, leftover from the "jersey girl" days of the 80s! Ha.

If you're still using the products listed in your signature, particularly the COs, you may want to change your routine by 1) switching to lighter ones specifically designed for volume, and/or 2) skipping the leave-in or layering of products because the lighter the hair the more volume.

I tried cutting out the Cream Gel and got craaaaaazy frizz. But I do have a light Vo5 conditioner that I'll try substituting for the Ojon conditioner tomorrow.

When I need extra volume, I wash my hair bending over the bath tub. I apply my condish and then rinse out, all w/ my hair leaning in the tub. Afterwards I wrap it in a towel and when you take it out, I swear you can notice a difference. Definitely got some extra volume/lift which is cool when I want to rock the afro. Might be worth a try?

I know when I want some extra volume I will let my hair dry high on my head in a bun or pony. When I take out the high bun or pony I get some extra volume while it air drys. My hair's heavy so more volume is alway something I am interested in.
You could part your crown in two sections and wrap each section in a bun or clip (not tightly) them while the length dries. When you take them out scrunch them to get some volume.

That sound like a great idea. I think that would work.

Oooh .. I'll have to try this. I look better with a little height, too.

Depending on how "modified" you are, you could try using hair spray with your hair flipped upside down. I use Shaper Plus spray (I've used it for years - love it as a styling product and as a finishing product). You can spray it upside down, then arrange it how you want on top and spray again. I will sometimes use my hands to pull my hair up on top (from underneath) and then spray it and leave it for a minute, or spray and then hit it with the hair dryer on cool for a few seconds, and it'll hold the volume there when my hair's just too long to hold itself up.

Good luck!
