I think we're twins! A few months ago, I was like you... trying to get my straight roots to go curly. Aftert everything I've tried I've learned that my straight roots are and always will be straight. So not much help, my only suggestion is trying a diffuser, which I don't have.

I have 3a/b hair and also have straight roots. Like embudini I've given up trying to get them to curl, it's just the way they are. I did try the baby claw clips on the top of my head - around my part - with some success but it just looked a bit weird on me so I haven't bothered again. Might be worth a try.
