How many tries do you give a product?

I'm looking for a new gel/mousse to use in the warmer weather and I'm not allowing myself to buy anymore products until I've given what's in my product stash a good honest try. And hopefully weed out the stuff that is definitely not gonna work once and for all.
I have tons of stuff that I've only tried once and wasn't impressed with but that was back when the weather was cooler. I'm thinking maybe the change in weather might give me different results now. I tried Joiwhip today for the second time (first try was back in the winter) and again I didn't get good results . Don't know if I should even bother giving it another try.

Anyway, just wondering how many tries you all give a product before you toss it for good?

I am very fickle - I try it once but I will usually go back to it at some point. My problem is I always think the next product someone is typing about on here will be the magical one but so far - not yet but I am hoping!

Well with the joiwhip, are you using any other products with it and what kind of results are you ending up with? It may not be the product itself but rather the technique.

I give products a few tries. I try it in combination with other products or putting it in my hair in different ways.

Unless the product is an absolute disaster on my hair the first time I use it, I'll usually try it in different combos before I give up on it. I agree that sometimes it's the technique & not the product. I don't know how much Joiwhip you're using, but from what I've read here, it sounds like a little bit goes a long way with this stuff.

it depends on what the results are. If they're half-decent, I try it again with some other products, adjusting as needed (if I need more/less hold, shiine, etc.). If it makes my hair absolutely horrid, it doesn't come near my head again.

If I see some promise, even an inkling, I force myself to try it a few days in a row...I'm in the process of doing this now, tomorrow will be my 5th try, I think ...
I keep trying products many times over, because of all of the rave on the site. I read alot and try different technques, giving the product a chance, but after too many tries ,off to the swap board it goes.
I use the whole thing unless it's completely terrible.. I payed money for it!

I give it two or three times. I toss after that.

it depends what kind of product it is, i'm used to using butters/creams and have been using Blended Beauty products for a while now.
The butter/cream products i tried it took me two times to get it right, I tried the Curly frizz pudding which is described as a gel but is like lotion, I have never used either lotion or gel in my hair so it took a while, maybe about 6 attempts to get results i really liked.
Now i know how much to use I'm loving results but to start with couldn't undersand all the people who loved it and i just couldn't make it work.

I have only ever given away two products (Suave Professionals Sculpting Gel something or other and Aussie Leave-in + Mousse). The rest I find a way to use them. I will try them in combination with different products, which normally works. I have two products now that I have failed to make work for me, so I use them to smooth my hair down when I do an updo (Fantasia IC gel with sparklelites and ORS lock and twist gel). That way I can save my nicer products for when I wear my hair down.

I usually give a product 3 tries and then toss it out of frustration. Sometimes, I'll try to save it for later and try it again in the future.

xcptnl, that's part of the problem with me too. Lately, good hair days are so few and far between that I'll try it once and if it doesn't work out, I don't feel like risking another bad hair day trying it again .

Fearnotsomuch, as far as the Joiwhip, I love how smooth and creamy it feels and it seemed so easy to distribute in my hair but I got a LOT of surface frizz and way too much volume . It was like my hair was too soft and fluffy. I agree about playing around with techniques and combos of products so maybe I'll have to try layering some gel on top which seems to control frizz better for me.

At least 6 times. At first I had no success with Garnier Soft Curl Creme or Re:Coil. But now I'm doing well with both.

Re:Coil took many, many tries but now I'm really impressed with it. I am wondering however if part of the success is due to the spring weather.

No more PJ tendencies. Tigi Curls Rock Curl Amplifier is the best thing to make my curls rock all day! Next best are KCCC and Re:Coil +HE TT Gel.
At least 3 times, unless I can't stand something about it (like the smell).

Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.
I also didn't mention that it depends on what kind of product it is. If I get bad results with a conditioner right away, I won't use it again. There's only one way to use a rinse-out... if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Styling products can be used in many different ways, so I feel like I should try several different techniques before I give up.
