Default Wish me luck! - UPDATE

As a favor to my husband (not really a favor, it was just his suggestion) I made an appointment with a stylist wife of one of his "coworkers" (in the same building, not in the same office) to cut my hair on Friday. She cuts another wife's hair (retired coworker's wife) & it looks awesome, even if her hair is straight.

I don't know if the stylist has or even has an inkling of an idea how to cut & style wavy or curly hair. I've never met her in person & I just talked with her on the phone today for the first time.

So I'm throwing caution to the wind. Though before I even get into the chair I will tell her to put the thinning shears away & to cut the layers with a light hand due to possible shrinkage when dry.

UPDATE:

Stupid me, I forgot [honestly!!! ] to take the camera for before & after pictures. And I suck at taking a decent shot of myself.

Anyhow, I showed her pictures of what I was looking for & almost every one was long layers.

She gave me the layers (shortest one when pulled comes to the chin) & cut my bangs a bit thicker which I also wanted (they may be on the long side though, but can be shortened later if I want).

She cut it wet, but I don't give a rat's butt if it's done that way or dry, as long as the stylist goes light on the cutting so it doesn't shrink further when dried naturally. She didn't need told this because she said pretty much the same thing before she started cutting. Though I did interject & tell her no razoring & keep as much length as possible.

After the cut she straightened it then put big curls back in & didn't use a bunch of styling products. Probably just a mousse & serum. I'll see if my hair has a problem with the serum. Lord I just hope I can duplicate the look at home because I love the style!!!

I don't know if anyone remembers the picture of the gal I took from a website some time back when I asked if such was long layers [purple lips! ]?

If not, it pretty much looks like this, but with bangs that come to just below the eyebrows:

I bought a hair magazine today & went through it so many times, tagging the pages of the wavy & curly styles I like.

A lot of them are normal layers, but a couple are shags which are so cute.

It's been around 80 or a bit more for a few days & if this is any indication of what summer's going to be like, I want my hair lighter on my head, neck & back.

I'm also tired of what I have making me look & feel frumpier than ever.

I'll try to remember to bring my camera so she can take a picture of the back & maybe the side. I haven't liked having a face shot taken for years due to the weight I put on so I wouldn't even request that.

If you think the person with the straight hair looks awesome then I think there's a very good chance that your hair will will turn out nicely as well.

Good luck!

Good luck! Good haircut vibes on the way.

As far as pics, you can take one of the front but block out the face when you post it. (I know the feeling though)

I forgot to add that the bangs with a bit of curl in them come to just below the eyebrow, but when pulled straight are to the middle of my eyes approximately. And she used a blow dryer without a diffuser & a little hair spray too, but that ain't no big thing!

Thanks Doodles, I'll enjoy the style as long as it lasts. Though when I was checking where the shortest layer was I pulled out some of the big curls so I need to dust off & warm up one of my irons that haven't seen use for years.

I forgot to ask her how often I should get it relayered to retain the look. Without me calling her, does anyone know if it's every 6-8 weeks?

It depends on how your hair grows, but I usually have to go in every 8-10 weeks to keep layers looking good.

Now you *have* to take pics of front and back (block the face) so we can see! It sounds perfect! Yay!

Thanks! I know they weren't the best pictures, especially after I got done "playing" with my hair making it all cattywompus.

Those highlights were from December! The lowlights are pretty much gone though.

It doesn't look cattywompus to me, it looks good! Albeit not curly. My hair is pretty close in cut to yours so maybe i'm biased

Speaking of that coloquial (sp?) cattywompus, my uncle had a cat named wompus. He had a weird sense of humor

Doodles & medusa,

catty wompus, catty-wompus, catty wompus:

supposedly the definition

I love southern slang! A neighbor from Miss (while living in Arkansas) taught me the noted word. I was very confused when she said it! After learning what it meant she taught me "pine straw". I was like WTH is pine straw?! DUH, pine needles. LOL

O!M!G!, medusa, why didn't I think of that?! I am so using that for a name when/if I get another cat!!! :P

I've been wanting a change. With summer coming on & less moisture in the air (well, once monsoon season goes away) it's going to feel good being lighter weight & I can straighten more, hopefully making it look as good as it did when I was sitting in the chair!
