I dont have any photos on hand - but when I was 16 I had short curly hair. I was told by a hairdresser that if it was short I'd manage it.

My only advice is think about it very hard - because it takes a while to grow out. I'd never do it again.

I am just coming out of having short hair. Growing out is a pain, but short hair was easy and fun for a while. I think my hair is 2bish and when it was short I had nearly no curl in it (but it grew in all kinds of weirdo directions, like cow-licks in annoying places all over. like behind my ears, and on my forehead).

There's one picture in my link on my profile, but if you're much curlier than me, or the wave pattern starts higher up, it's probably not much help...

(...although...I did use this gel called got2be glued...and that stuff could straighten the mississippi, i'm convinced.)

how curly is your hair? If it's real curly, you might end up looking like a poodle if it's pixie short. If your hair is not super curly, I think it would work. I would think you'd have to keep it trimmed regularly, though, because as it starts to grow out, the curls will start to emerge and they are going to stick out some. They will continue to stick out until you get enough length for the curl to make a complete rotation or two.

I kept short hair most of my life. Probably not as short as pixie length, though.

Until a year ago, I wore my hair short, usually cut over my ears. My hair isn't as curly when it's short, but it was so easy to take care of. I really liked it, but I wore it that way for years and got tired of it so I decided to grow it out, which is when I found out how wavy/curly it really was.

The only decent pictures I could find were at our wedding, which I have posted in my fotki. I have flowers in my hair so you can't see the whole head, but you might get an idea. Also, I don't know how curly you are, so might not help you at all.

I've had short hair for the last few years...maybe not quite as short as you are thinking but layered with the length between 1" and maybe 2 or 3" at the longest points. I loved it but got bored and am now growing it out so that the longest pieces will be maybe 5 or 6" long. I have fine 3A hair but I had plenty of curl when it was short. My hair is the odd 3A as it tends to get less curly as it gets below chin or shoulder length...it's own weight (my hair is very thick) just seems to pull the curl out throughout the day.

thanks for all the responses!

my hair is about 3a, and right now the longest peices hit my chin and the shortes peices are about at the cheek bone. ive been on and off the idea for about a year, and my logic is that i always wear my hair up, and get told it looks better up anyways (boo! ). the only thing that really bothers me is that i really dont want to look like a boy. ive been looking for a cut thats soft and feminine, you know? hmm.
their are pictures on my myspace if youd like to see my hair, and im also not sure if i have the right face shape for it. what do you think?

I doubt anything would make you look like a boy! I think you'd look good in just about any hair style. In any case, I got lots of compliments on my short hair...the most common being that it made me look like Annette Benning when she has short hair.

Good luck,

my hair is very short and curly. i would rather it be longer and a little wild. right now i can't really do much with it but it doesn't take me any time at all to get ready in the morning.

This could be me, except I'm been growing mine out for about one year. I wore my hair super short for many years. I was easy to take care of. I usually styled it straight w/ a blow dryer, because I didn't really know it was curly. If I got caught out in misty weather it would curly up nicely on top - I still had no clue:-) The biggest drawback was that I had to have it cut every 3-4 weeks, or it lost shape. Now that mine is longer - just touches my shoulders when it's dry - I have it trimmed every 8 weeks. I only do it that frequently because I have it colored and I feel it's healthier with the ends trimmed regularly.

I got a very short haircut last summer, it was short of a buzz cut. It looked like a brillo pad.

I feel your pain. I always had short hair up until 2003ish. I have one picture in my fotki with it short. My hair definitely looked more wavy when it was short but like you with my hair longer I feel unkept and messy. I am going to try and go through the summer without cutting it. But I totally understand how you feel.

I go through phases with my hair. I grow it out for about two years, it reaches past the middle of my back, I get bored and chop it all off. Last October was chop it off time and went very short. I'm not sure if it was as short as you're thinking though. I have type 3b hair and it still curled a bunch.

I just started growing it out again because I obviously get bored very easily and there just wasn't much I could do with it. I love it short for the convenience though. So I'm growing it out very slowly. Plus shorter hair is just so sassy. Makes me feel interesting.

I looked at your pictures and honestly think you'll look cute and feminine with any style. If you look at my pics you'll notice I have a round face and I think I still pull off short hair nicely.

I say go for it! It'll always grow back!
