calling on ingredient gurus to solve my build-up

I like to consider myself CG friendly, but honestly I'm not an ingredient guru like a lot of you. I basically know not to use some cones and all shampoos. I use the Deva curl one conditioner and no poo. For styling I use EO Leave in cond. and biolage gelee. I've used the gelee for a couple of years and I've noticed since switching to Deva brands I get a gross flakey thick build-up on my scalp. Do you think the biolage or leave-in is causing this? I scrub my scalp like crazy when cleansing. If you think the biolage is the cause do you have any suggestions for a similar product that won't cause this nastiness?

Thanks for your help!

Here is the list of ingrediants for the biolage:

Aqua (Water), PVP/VA Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polyquaternium 10, Diazolidinyl Urea, Polyquaternium 11, Methylparaben, Parfume (Fragrance), Polyquaternium 4, Polyquaternium 7, Propylparaben, Polysorbate 20, Cellulose, Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Geraniol, Hibiscus Sabdariffa/Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract, Tetrasodium EDTA, Humulus Lupulus/Hops, Malva Sylvestris/Mallow Extract

Here is the list for the EOŽ Leave in:

Eo Organic Herbal Blend, Purified Water, Organic White Tea, Organic Nettle, Organic Dandelion, Organic Elder Flower, Organic Lemongrass, Organic Hops, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 60, French Lavender Essential Oil, Safflower Oil, Amino Acids, Behenalkonium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate
As much as I like OneC and how it makes my hair look, I got that buildup after using it a little while. Nothing I did got rid of it until I quit using it. OneC tends to do that to some of us.
I'm a 3b, with 3c underneath.

Used to be CG, now I'm not. Using Suave Aloe & Waterlily shampoo & condish, JoiWhip, BRHG, Suave Aloe gel, Aussie Tizz No Frizz, and anything else that looks good!

Wow, I never even thought of it being the conditioner. I just assumed it was a safe product. What kind of conditioner do you use now?

I'd say, in all likelihood, it's the Gelee. In winter, my hair does really well with peg castor oils and other oils. In summer, it looked producty and results in crimped frizz.

There's some possibility it's the oils in the EO, but they are low enough in the ingreds and fairly neutral. Oils in summertime can do to hair what tanning oils do to skin--bake it.

I agree also that the Devacurl OC could be the culprit, but that's nothing a one-time clarifying couldn't handle. Gelee looks like buildup on me right away in summer.
I kind of go between Jessicurl Aloeba and Regis Olive Oil at the moment. I use the Aloeba when I need less conditioning and the Regis when I need more.

I thought that the Deva products wouldn't be the source since they were CG friendly and I wasn't sure the rest were. I just wanted to make sure my other two products were safe before eliminating. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks everyone for your tips.

in my experience, anything can eventually build-up, so i shampoo (and follow with a deep treatment) periodically. i have to, or my hair starts to look like crap-ola.

Well after years of avoiding shampoo I bought and used EOŽ Clarifying Shampoo this weekend. It seemed pretty gentle. My hair has some frizz going on, but I can tell that it helped with the build-up. I just couldn't handle the flakes anymore.

Here is the description of the product and ingredients:

Gently removes the build-up of excess oils, styling products and chlorine.
Coconut Cleansing Complex is uniquely gentle and richly lathering. By now you probably know we never use irritating sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates.
Our organic herbal blend is nutrient-rich and softening.
Witch Hazel helps remove build-up, conditions as it cleanses and leaves the scalp clean and refreshed.
Vitamins A & E are added to soothe and protect the scalp and promote healthy hair growth.

Eo Organic Herbal Blend, Purified Water, Organic White Tea, Organic Nettle, Organic Dandelion, Organic Elder Flower, Organic Lemongrass, Organic Hops, Cocomidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Sodium Myristoyl Sarcosinate, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Sodium Coco Sulfate, French Lavender Essential Oil, Eo Essential Oil Blend, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Polysorbate 60, Witch Hazel, Magnesium Sulfate, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate
Well see here's the thing. The deva curl one c is not quite cg. It has aminodimethicone which although does dot build up as fast will eventually build up. It isn't water soluble.

Believe me the one mild cone in the one c has been a topic of debate here for a long long time..LOL

Basically the One C is personal prefrence now as to whether ya like it or not.
Corkicelli Now! YAY! Now all I have to do is update my avy pic.
