how easily does your hair pick up smells?

I'm just curious how much everyone elses hair absorbs everyday smells.
Mine tends to stay pretty neutral when it's natural. Even smoke seems to fade out pretty quickly. But I straightened it yesterday and I swear I can smell the perfume/cologne of every one I came near last night!
Pain in the rear since it still looks pretty good and I don't wanna wash it before heading up to the beach. :P

I would have assumed that the serum I used would block smell absorbtion more than my usual products but apparently that's not the case.

What about procuct? Does your product smell generally fade out pretty quickly or stick around? When my hair is curly it seems to hold product smell longer and deflect other smells. Apparently when it's straight it smells pretty neutral at first then sucks up every smell around!

My hair is on the dry side and I find it is neutral too and it doesn't absorb smells much. On the other hand, my sister has straight hair and her hair really does absorb other odours much to her dismay especially during the summer and she has to wash it more often. I guess people with straight hair tend to have oilier hair (or at least from the people I know) and maybe that is why their hair picks up scents. Just my 2 cents.
Mine picks up the smell of smoke really easily. I remember a time when my Mom told me she was quitting smoking. I went into the bathroom after her, and she had sprayed air freshener. A few minutes later, I was in my room and I smelled cigarette smoke in my hair. Busted!

On the bright side, when I go to a bbq I have a nice smell to remind me of all the yummy food I ate earlier in the day!

My hair seems to pick up the smell of cig. smoke easily, after I'm at my bf's for the weekend, I can smell it until I shower, and sometimes I can still smell it after that. Other than that I never notice smells in my hair for very long. ~~jax

Some smells linger in my hair longer than others- especially cig. smoke and "cooking" smells, especially grilling or frying.

But products, perfumes, sweat, etc. don't really stick to my hair, curly or straight. Of course, straight, it usually has 1000x more product in it (to keep it from looking like frizzy fried crap).

My skin is another issue though. I hate going to bars because I can still smell the smoke/crowd b.o./booze scent on my skin even after I shower. If I drive with one arm out the window, later on I can detect which forearm smells like "road".

My hair picks up scents fairly easily. Besides ciggie smoke and greasy/frying food scents, it also picks up leather! I hate getting in my SO's car because my hair will smell like leather the rest of the day.

As far as products, yes they definitely linger. People never comment on my perfume or deodorant scents, but they always say my hair smells good, which is strange to me. As far as which products linger, it depends. Yesterday, the product scent that lingered was my generic Paul Mitchell The Conditioner, even though it wasn't the most strongly scented product I had on. Normally it's my LA Looks gel. When I was shampooing with sulfates, it was always my shampoo.

3B that is no longer CG, but still endeavors to have healthy hair by not using sulfates.
Me me me!

It used to mainly be cigarette smoke, but I find that my hair picks up other smells as well. If I'm in a coffee shop for about two hours, my hair smells like Starbucks for almost a full day after (which isn't a bad thing!)

Then I went to one of those hibachi grill restaurants and the next day, I smelled grilled fish coming out of my hair!

I personally can't smell it on myself until I get in the shower and wet my hair... then all the scents come out. I wonder though if others can smell smoke, coffee, BBQ, etc. in my hair if they stand close enough.

My hair picks up smells quickly, especially cigarette smoke. I *hate* it! I haven't noticed if I pick up other scents, like food scents (coffee, spices, etc).
3a/3b thick coarse WL dark brown hair. CG/Mod CG since: 5/4/05. Current products: Right now my hair is in such a tizzy over this winter weather we are hving that nothing really seems to be working. I need a haircut.
My hair picks up any kind of smoke easily and holds it.

In winter when my neighbor's fireplace is going the smoke wafts over toward my house. I get out of the car to open the gate and literally in an instant my hair smells gross.

No more PJ tendencies. Tigi Curls Rock Curl Amplifier is the best thing to make my curls rock all day! Next best are KCCC and Re:Coil +HE TT Gel.
It's so odd... I went to a beach party last night and was around plenty of smoke but even though I haven't washed my hair, it doesn't smell like smoke at all. Of course that's now that it's wavy. All I had to do Friday night was stand near someone and my hair picked their scent up! Weird.

I haven't ever noticed my hair picking up food smells, that's interesting. Maybe a little BBQ smoke but no too much. But if someone burns pine and I get near, my hair will reek of it. :P

I find that my hair likes to hold the scent of any products I don't particularly like and not so much with the ones I like, of course. Probably partially becaquse you notice the stinky ones more but still...
People do comment more about my hair smelling good than if I wear perfume. Or they'll generally comment that I whatever I'm wearing smells good when I'm not wearing anything scented.
