Spacegirl!

I don't mean to embarrass you, although I'm sure this will.. but I am very dismayed to see that there has never been a post in your honor. I just did a search and I happen to think that you haven't gotten nearly enough recognition for your awesome curls.

Also, for those that are interested in the subject, she's just recently posted pictures of how she clips her hair. I found it useful, I thought others might too.

Okay, so who else find's spacegirl's pictures to be awe-inspiring? I know I'm not the only one.
Me too! I've admired them at least a couple of times. Her whole look is very cool–glasses, hair color, and the curls. If her profile didn't say otherwise, I'd swear she lived in Portland, she's so darn hip.
I know, I saw some of her pictures in a thread this morning and was thinking the same. Woman, your hair is gorgeous!

Stop it you're embarrassing me!

Iwantcurlyhair, I'm glad you found the clip pics helpful. It's hard to visualize things sometimes, and after all, a picture is worth a thousand words.

wildsheepchase (funny name!), is Brooklyn not as hip as Portland? We all know Manhattan isn't hip anymore, but I thought my home borough had a rising hippness factor.

Gemini13, thanks. And thanks for the B'klyn shoutout. Don't we go to the same place to get our hair cut? Casey at The Beehive salon? I think you were the first person to mention that place. Can't get much hipper than a kitchy '50s style salon populated by tattooed stylists with Bettie Page meets Goth beauticians!

Yup, spacegirl was one of my NC.com idols when I first came here. What really makes me mad is that my hair seems like it could look like hers, but it never does.

Bailey, you've got some gorgeous shiny hair. I wish my shined like that! And you seem to have consistant curls. My hair is so curly in the front, wavy in the back, straight underneath, curlier on the right side then the left. Gaaah! The grass is always greener, ya know?

Gemini, good luck! How much are you cutting off? Don't go too crazy now. And thanks for reminding me to call up and make an appointment for a color glaze. Woohoo!

She absolutely does. I've always loved her curls. Gonna sneak over and steal the green glasses some day.

Spacegirl, I haven't spent much time in Brooklyn. Just an architecture lecture in Brooklyn Heights, and visiting a couple of museums. Regardless, I'll bet you're still the hippest curly girl in the borough. : )
Spacegirl, your hair is beautiful, and you're awesome at taking good pictures.

Currently: Trying to stop straightening so much. Using Elucence conditioner and whatever works for me.
I love Brooklyn and your curls!! Okay, what do you use? Although I know my hair would never be as awesome as yours in those pics! My cousin lives in Brooklyn, and I love visiting her (and her hubby and new baby). It's a great place to be.
Now I am seriously embarrassed. Seriously. Although my husband thinks this is all terribly funny.

First off, I would like to thank you for your kind words. You all know how hard it is having curly hair and it's so wonderful to have a place like this where we can all share ideas and frustrations.

Now to get down to brass tacks. Lately this has been my routine:

Co wash every few days with Nioxin Scalp Therapy for Fine Hair. It's this kind of super-pepperminty conditioner-like green stuff, though I can't imagine using it as conditioner. It's what they used to wash hair with at Devachan before they came out with their own line. It makes my scalp feel a lot cleaner than No-Poo.

Then I use Nexxus Phyto-Organics Nectaress conditioner, which I buy by the gallon. I love the way it smells (though some people think the smell is too strong). It's really light, so it's good to use as a leave in too. Btw, this is what they used at Devachan before One C was invented. Do you see a pattern here? I comb it through with this wacky wide tooth comb someone recommended a while back, I think it's called the Mebco Shower comb? I'm doing this all right side up lately. If I do the upside down stuff I comb the conditioner through upside down. Then I rinse briefly.

This is where I diverge from the Devachan route. I use Curl Keeper or Re:coil, depending on the weather report, then layer on B&A gel. I rake them through soaking wet hair, then I scrunch upwards with my Curl Ease towel (jeez, I'm starting to sound like an infomercial.) I scrunch hard and long before I move on to the next part of my hair, to get as much water out as possible. After the scrunching, I graze some B&A over my hair, then I clip the roots and sit around for a while and drink a cuppa tea and delete my spam or read nc.com. When it gets to a certain point of hardness, I diffuse a bit. I'm really impatient with diffusing, so I usually screw my hair up at this point by scrunching it too much. Anyway, I dry it then scrunch out the crunch by flipping my head over and scrunching up and I sort of ruffle my fingers down by my scalp to get rid of the clip marks.

I have to add that I work from home, so I have the good fortune to have limitless time to let my hair air dry, though when I had a regular job I did my hair much the same, but with out diffusing. I'd go to work with my hair wet and then a few hours later I'd scrunch it.

So that's about it. I ran out of deep conditioner a while back and will be ordering some Curl Junkie soon. (thanks Bailey!)

I'd also like to add (to this already monstrously long post) that I totally envy your beautiful, shiny red hair, Lushaholic. Perhaps we can set up a trade for the green glasses?

IWCh, I'm glad that you started this thread. I had somehow missed spacegirl's pics! From her avatar, I had pictured a chin length bob, what a fun surprise to see long lovely curls with superb definition. nice clip pics too, and I also really like how the glasses go with the hair.
Kiva! Microfinance works.

Med/Coarse, porous curly.
I've embarrassed spacegirl on a number of threads by gushing about her hair. If I could choose a head of hair, it'd be hers.

And she's the best Monty Python-quoting curly I've met so far.

Oh gosh. Beautiful hair! How long did it take to grow?

Have had my hair short for almost a year now. No regrets! Still loving it!
Well, I got that SJP bob in Jan of 2003. The next picture where my hair was shoulder length is March 2004. That seems like such a short amount of time to have grown that much, but I guess pictures don't lie. I'll double check though. Since then I've been cutting out the dyed parts, which is why it's been hovering around the same length for so long. I usually get my hair cut every 9 months to a year, so it has a lot of time to grow before getting a shaping.

Leilani42, I can still recite all the words to "The Holy Grail". My husband hates watching that movie with me, but he did get me tickets to Spamalot for my birthday last year. He's such a good sport.

redcelticcurls, I loved your pineapple post. I can't believe how good your second day hair looks. I can get second day hair, but it looks like second day, I-didn't-wash-my-hair hair. Your's looks as good as it did on the first day!
