Needing advice?

I recently got a really bad haircut..( i was crying when I left the salon ) and the only way my hair looks good is when i wear it curly (i have straightened it since i was a teenager, but read curly girl, and am trying to convert..haven't worn it straight since i got the cut -- which i might add, she made me pay for.)
one part of my hair refuses to curl. luckily it's in the back, so i can sort of hide it, but it's frusterating.
also, i don't know if i'm over using product, or if i haven't found the right one, but my hair won't curl up right unless i diffuse it, which i am trying to stop.
my hair is just blah.
i'm not sure if i understand the concept of cg, even though i read the book a million times.
Well, you're headed in the right direction and you've definitely come to the right place!!

Basically, being CG means using conditioners to wash with and ditching the shampoo. But, alot of us are modified CG, which means we use shampoo on occasion because some of the products we use have a cone in them. And then some aren't CG at all!

That stubborn non-curling part of your hair might respond to using conditioners to wash with as well as finding a mousse or gel that works well with your hair.

Diffusing isn't a bad thing, either, just don't use the hottest setting. Lots of us diffuse to help give curl and volume or to just help the hair dry faster.

Start reading hair product labels and try to stay away from those with ingredients ending in -cone or cyclopentasiloxane (the worst cone). There are lots of products that have a cone, thought, that aren't too bad. I usually try to stay away from a product with more than one in it.

I'm sure lots of other curlies will chime in to help you . Don't hesitate to ask lots of questions - we're here to help. Welcome to nc.com!

Hiya hon, welcome!

So sorry that you started going curly under such regrettable circumstances. A bad cut isn't a good start, but at least it looks good while its curly, which is a bonus!

I also have some hair that is much less curly than the rest, mines in the back too. However since starting CG in Feb, it is getting more curly. I think it used to take the brunt of all the brushing, which I don't do now.

Give it a good while; like I said, I started in Feb, haven't used shampoo since, and I had some bad days, the ladies here have had to come to my rescue quite a few times! It takes some time to get a routine down that works for you, there are many variations on the CG way. You will get a feel for it, and take comfort in the fact that, even when you have a dodgy hair day, that your hair will be so much healthier and happier in the long run and it will reward you back by looking better too!

Good luck on the curly quest, look forward to reading you!

I actually shampoo occasionally because I use prods that have proteins in them and they make my hair kinda funny so I non-sulphate shampoo and then DT. But I totally would never straighten again. Once my hair became healthy again it looks awesome! You won't regret it, also the diffusing is something a bunch of do to boost curl and volume. Take some pics and link to your profile and we'll help you along. It's easier to help if we can see what your hair looks like and styles you wear.
