Starting 'cone free!

After much research on naturallycurly.com, I've decided it's time to go 'cone free!!

In the past few days, I've spent over $50 on products, and tomorrow I will use ALL 'CONE FREE products!!

I wanted to today, but that didn't go so well-

After my shower, I decided to start with some gel in my hair. I don't have any gel, but luckily my boyfriend does! LA Looks- the blue one- I've heard good things about. So then, I searched high and low- I looked at ALL of the ingredients on ALL of my products ... some of these products I bought over 3 years ago!! Sadly, all of them have 'cones of some sort. It is really sad to me that most products geared towards curly or frizzy hair, have 'cones in them. Do these manufacturers WANT us to keep having unruly, damaged hair??

So anyway, I used the LA Looks with some Zero Frizz Serum that I've trusted in my hair for 2 years now, and some Thermasilk heat activated curl enhancing mousse stuff. I diffused a little bit and when my hair dried it actually looked pretty good!

I went to Sally and The Natural Living Center today ... the latter is probably where I'll purchase lots of conditioner in the future! But for today, I got everything from Sally:

Generic Brand conditioner- like Nexxus Humectress
Naturelle Aura Hypo-Allergenic Styling Gel
Biotera Curl Creme
Curl-It-Up Leave-In Conditioner Spray (didn't realize until after I bought it and was looking at the receipt in the car- apparently this product is for permed hair! But it's supposed to add body and eliminate frizz so I'll give it a shot)

Then I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and got an Aquis Waffle Weave towel.

I am SO excited to do my hair tomorrow.

QUESTIONS:
1. Anyone have good/bad experience with any of those products??
2. This means a whole new routine for me. Obviously the conditioner comes first, but then what?? Does anyone have a similar product selection?? In what order do you put the stuff in your hair?

I'm going to bring my products to work with me tomorrow and see if any of my coworkers want the stuff. If not, I guess I'm just going to throw it all away, 'cause 'cones are bad!

I haven't had any experience with any of those prods, however I can give you a couple of application tips. Before you start you will need to clarify - shampoo to get rid of the silicones theat were in the Frizz Serum you used yesterday. CG really works best if you clarify first. Always apply your leave-in before your styling prods like gel, and always apply everything to soaking/dripping wet hair. I know this seems funny and it's sometimes hard to get the hang of but there is a reason behind it. In soaking wet hair the cuticle is somewhat sealed and putting styling prods over it kind of glues it down. Seals in the moisture and that in turn reduces frizz. Also, don't touch your hair untilit is completely dry and has a hard "crunchy" feel to it. Then flip your hair over and squish/scrunch your hair in your hands carefully and gently to "scrunch out" the gel cast.
Beware of hidden silicones. Such as cyclypentasiloxane, because it ends in 'xane and not 'cone it is tricky. It is the most diffcult to remove and usually requires a shampoo to do so.
Good Luck!

:x I am SO UNSATISFIED with my hair today!!

I showered, just conditioned (I didn't think of the need to 'poo to remove yesterdays 'cones). Squeezed out dripping water, sprayed the leave-in frizz spray stuff. Then used the gel- one dime sized in the front parts, one dime sized in the back. Then the curling creme- same amounts as gel; I plopped with aquis towel, left it for 15 minutes. Dried with diffuser, and HOLY FRIZZ!!!!!!! I applied more gel, sprayed the crap out of it with so-called "frizz fighter" stuff, and put more creme in.

So I've realized that in products, I need to focus on frizz control. My curls are pretty bouncy when I use a diffuser, and with deep moisture co and some weekly deep co' treatments, I should be able to improve the damaged dryness of my hair.

Please, oh please ... tell me what product will fight my outrageous evil frizz!!!!!

Are you doing the curly girl routine where you condition wash with conditioner, or are you still using a regular shampoo?
3a/3b thick coarse WL dark brown hair. CG/Mod CG since: 5/4/05. Current products: Right now my hair is in such a tizzy over this winter weather we are hving that nothing really seems to be working. I need a haircut.
I only shampoo 2xmonth at the most and only because I have slight seborrheic dermatitis ... I usually don't even co-wash because any product on my scalp besides Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment really makes the SD flare up!

I'm going to experiment tonight- shower, not fully rinsing out the co, apply stronger gel (LA Looks Sport- the blue one) to soaking wet hair. Then some curl creme, plop, and a bit more gel and curl creme. Maybe diffuse a bit ... I haven't decided yet. I don't get any volume unless I diffuse, but until I get something that'll tame my frizz, I should stick to air drying!

This is what I'm looking into for frizz control ... input about these products individual, or what comos work best together, would be AWESOME! OR if you know of something else. I used Zero Frizz Serum for a LONG time and it really helped my frizz ... I want something like that, but without 'cones! )

You'll get sick of hearing "Everybody's hair is different", but it's true. What works magic on one, can be a disaster for others. But, Curl Keeper comes to mind as far as many people with different kinds of curls having success with this as a hair base against frizz.

When I started CG, I always ended up with frizz at the end also (for so many reasons), anyway, in the beginning, I'm almost always had to finish up with a gel at the end, or with Set It Free. Now, I always put the product into the palm of my hand, added a little water, swirled it around, smooshed it between both my hands and gently wiped/scrunched over the canopy and didn't touch it again.

Good luck and don't give up.

It's disheartening to have to start all over with my hair, after having a routine that worked for years!!

I am confident that I will find something that works for my curls! It just really sucks buying all kinds of new products!! My boyfriend thinks I'm INSANE because I'm getting all brand new products, returning some unused stuff to target and walmart, returning stuff that doesn't work to sally, ordering products online, trying to find a new salon to go to, etc., etc.! I do feel kind of insane, but it'll be worth it when my curls look as gorgeous as you CGs!

I'm going to try and post some pictures tonight ... I'm still quite confused about what type I am, and I also just found a topic all about different types of frizz!! Information overload!
