Default Cut your own hair the CG way?

I've searched through the forums to find all the posts about cutting your own hair. I've cut my own hair for years (reaching behind my head and blindly chopping!) but now I'm trying to cut it with the CG method. I gave myself a trim cutting each curl individually, but I still don't think I'm cutting at the right place in the curl.

Maybe I'm slow, but I can't figure out exactly what part of the curl to cut. In some newspaper articles, Lorraine talks about cutting the curls so they are hydrated. I assume that the specific spot the curl is cut makes a difference in how it absorbs the moisture.

But when you cut your own hair, aren't all the C's and S's reversed in the mirror? Does that confuse the issue and make you cut it in the wrong spot?

Thanks for any help!
