Default How to wear hair with a mantilla veil?

So I'm getting hitched in a couple of weeks and I'm wearing a mantilla veil. I'm not sure how I should wear my hair.

My hair is currently a little above shoulder length, layered 4a/b hair.

I was thinking a low bun with a side part.

I was just going to say that, Webbie. I think the low bun with a side part and some curly wisps would look beautiful!

Congratulations and I hope you have perfect weather.

That sounds good. If you wanted to go farther with the Spanish flavor, you could wear a decorative comb in your bun.

Nice idea. Maybe higher up on the head to provide height and anchor for the mantilla. Also I was thinking a matching hair faux pony for volume.

For my wedding I wore my hair in a bun with a side part and random little curls poking out of the bun and some small white stephanotis flowers in it. It worked perfectly with my veil and looked great when I removed the veil for the reception.

But doesn't your mantilla have a comb to attach it?
My sister had a mantilla that our grandmother brought her from Spain. Unfortunately, it was too ivory for her whiter dress, so she didn't wear it. But it was a veil and comb.

I think some people attach the mantilla with hairpins, but the tradition would be to use a comb.

mine has the comb attached but its done in a way that you cannot see the comb.

Ok, so I'm going to do the bun. Do I do a 'soft' bun where you can see the texture of my hair, or a slicked down wavy/straightened bun where the hair is more flat against the scalp?

I was planning on getting one of those donut thingies to make my bum look bigger.

My hair was slicked back but the actual bun part was sort of loose and ringlety to make it look bigger.
I would say practice with both ways before and see which one you like best.

I would do a bun that is stable, be it slicked or wavy. You will want to make sure the bun is well secured and then isert the comb making sure that is also feels secure. You may need extra pins too. Perhaps you should test drive the the bun with the peineta first and that will also help you decide what style bun is best for you.

There was a discussion on this in the LHC forum. The Mantilla is the actual veil and the peineta is the comb part that you would drape the veil over.

If you go to LHC, there are some links with pics of women wearing the peinetas and mantillas. That may help to give you some style ideas.
