I believe it is fine for CG. If you use a lot it doesn't come out too easily though.
It definitely weighs my fine hair down and makes it feel dirty and look greasy. I have fine hair so I have much better luck with jojoba oil.

If I'm gonna use a coconut product, I very much prefer coconut milk as a pre-wash DT. It's a little messy but I just do it in the tub while I take a bath and put the extra in the bath so I get out feeling super soft all over.

I have, and my results were not so great, though I haven't had much luck using oils as leave-ins in general. It just always looks greasy, and it doesn't seem to soak into my hair. I have much better results using it in my rinse out daily conditioner as well as in my deep treatments.

3B that is no longer CG, but still endeavors to have healthy hair by not using sulfates.
I LOVE coconut. It is very easy for my very thick hair to become dry, and coconut oil keeps my hair so soft and the ends feeling good. I can use it wet or dry, and it smells so good. I can use a lot at a time, but people with finer hair may need to experiment with different amounts.
Super Thick corkscrews and waves. LOVE Elucence MBC, Giovanni 50/50 condish, Qhemet Products, V05 Calming Chamomile Tea Therapy condish, Jessicurl WDT. These are my official HG's that I love oh so much

i tried coconut oil for a while, but i'm realizing i don't like it in my hair. i tried using it on my face since i read it's good for your skin and i ended up with a horrible rash all over my forhead...and down the back of my neck. so right now, i've gone back to good ole virgin olive oil. i just started using it again...for about a week now, and it's making my hair softer and have less crispy ends.

Even though my hair is pretty fine, this is one oil I can use -- it just seems to melt right into my hair. I've been using it as an overnight hair treatment and my hair looks so much better -- my ends are fuzzy, etc. because of this.

Depending on my mood, I'll shampoo it out or use a co-wash.

I've used coconut oil as a leave in and did not like the results. Unlike most other oils, it did manage to penetrate my hair, but it made the strands extremely plump, to the point of stiff. My hair did not feel soft at all.

I've since read that it strengthens the hair (it can do this as it's one of very few oils that can actually penetrate the hair shaft), and my hair definitely felt a little more resilient with that stuff in it- it was very, very springy, so much so that it did not want to stay how I styled it. Since I like the strengthening aspect, I've started adding it to treatments (which I rinse out thoroughly) so I can enjoy the benefits without the stiffening effect I get using it as a leave in.

@banjocurl- I was planning on mixing coconut oil with shea as a pre-swim treatment this summer. I'm amazed that you managed to get it all out without a shampoo, though. Glad to know in advance that it works well!
I've used it as a leave in ever since starting CG. Yes it does weigh down the hair, but that is my purpose. I have naturally volumous hair due to my ethnicity and am looking for something to calm my curls down. It's great and always comes out with a co wash. I read at a long hair website that all the hair's basic needs are scalp washing, conditioning and oiling. So that is why I chose oil in the first place. It's only kind of greasy, but all oils are. =]
