Well, you may want to try the Curly Girl routine. Here's
a link that explains that, and here's
a link that explains it in literally Kindergarten terms. It's a really good idea to try it, because it really helps.
As for plopping, it's a technique to help your hair set into clumps. Here's
an article with pictures about plopping.
Since you blowdried/flatironed a lot, your hair may be dry or damaged. I suggest doing a deep treatment (DT) once a week. Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment, Ouidad Deep Treatment, and even DevaCare One C/Jessicurl Too Shea
! - which are regular conditioners - work as DTs. You can basically use any conditioner and make it a DT by adding heat or some oil/s.
As for products, most people like to use a good, moisturizing conditioner; a styling cream and/or leave-in condish (which may just be your regular, daily condish); and a good, heavy gel.
HTH, and welcome!
ETA: I forgot. Towels are important too; regular terry ones can cause frizz. Microfiber towels work very well. Also, especially since you sleep with wet hair, a satin pillowcase is key. It helps to keep your hair tangle-free and smooth even after sleeping.
