Default First Curly haircut questions!

First of all I can't even believe I am typing this I have always hated my hair curly those of you who know me from here last year I kept trying, this year I finally have become more into wearing it curly then straight, when I blow it out seems so flat too me. anyway I am in desperate need of a haircut, my curls are sad, straight its sad anyway I looked into some of the reviews online and I refuse to pay 100+ for a haircut from Devachan. I found a salon where a girl got really good reviews, its about 45 minutes away.and I have to drive in NJ and I hate NJ but I got an early birthday gift of a GPS system, so hopefullly I wont get too lost lol. I called today and got an appt for Friday (my birthday so i wont feel as guilty lol pampering myself) Anyway I am so psyched but what i do want to know is when a curly gets a haircut from someone who specializes in curly hair does that mean it will look bad if i blow it straight?

I've read that it will still look the same if you straighten it...it might just have layers or something. There's something about this on Ouidad's site.

I would just tell the stylist you would like to be able to wear it both curly and straight and see what the response is.

Good luck (by the way your hair is beautiful curly)

When I had my curly cut done (deva trained stylist) I told her I didn't want to lose any length and she very carefully just cleaned me up a bit. I was amazed at how much came off but it was so not noticeable because it was all over my head. Please let us know how it goes!

I dunno if this helps but my stylist cuts my hair dry and its straight when i get it cut , i find the cut is more of a defined cut even when straight if that makes sense. so when i go home and make it curly the cut is perfect . She also cuts a lil bit of layers when dry/straight too. Gives my hair more volume and its more curly , falls better into place too. It wouldnt hurt to ask her too.

Thank you for this tip I didnt even think to ask if it would be better off to go with curls or not, but its supposed to be raining so blowing it out would be a waste lol, i think i might be better off with it curly so she sees my type of curl, oh god i dont know i never gave so much thought to a haircut, i just know i always hate getting my haircut, i think i prefer going to the dentist lol

Well I am back andI'm not at all impressed, but first let me say its my birthday, i am pmsing and have cried all damn day. Anyway, she didnt do anything different then what my normal hairdresser did, except charge me double, my curls have no definaition at all looks like a frizzy mess, i told her my curl pulls out easy, put it this way by the time i got hime i had done some shopping i looked like a crazy woman. so i just washed it in the sink and used my normal stuff, she took a decent amount off (another reason i hate haircuts, cause i feel like i will never get the length, i am all to the shoulder now) but she said it was uneven so she evened it out. so there is my long rambling, and I just dont like the extra 30 bucks was worth it, atleast with my normal hair dresser i know what im gonna walk out with. oh well its something i wanted to do, and maybe when im done PMSing and i get off my emotional rollercoaster I will feel better!

I had tried 2 other stylists that had raving reviews in CurlSalons, and like you, I walked away crushed. I was trying to get the nerve up to try a third person recommended, when I re-checked devaconcepts and found we finally had one within driving distance!

Happy Birthday anyway, and hope in a couple days it's all better!!!

I have to say she definatly gave me a good cut, yes its shorter but it feels better. i blew it out straight this morning just to see if i could, lol it still looks good straight, but i didnt go crazy just had to make sure, so i just got out of the shower and its drying well, One thing i am noticing, is my underlayers by the nape of my neck she cut pretty much shorter then they have been in awhile and they are having a hard time curling now and i never had issues with curl there, i guess that definatly makes me a 3a then right? if its shorter the curl isnt as strong?

Sorry your birthday had a few bumps. I'm glad the cut is actually good and it looks better after you styled it. Happens with me too-- I still wasn't happy with the styling after my devacut! Better when I styled myself.
