What are your must-haves?....

What would you say are your curly hair products must haves?
What could you not live without?
Are Deva products worth investing in?

I don't really have any must haves, except a decent conditioner. I can pull off going without if need be, I might not look my best, but I can pull it off.

Deva is good. I like it, it's not the best for me, but I don't regret buying it, and I might buy it again.

DevaCurl One C is my must have.

Are deva products worth investing in? For me definitely the One C and the Set it Free. All other products either didn't work for me or I was able to find cheaper alternatives. But remember that what works for me may not work for you or the other way around. I recommend that you buy the travel size pack and try them before investing in them.

Devacurl One C is my HG for a conditioner and a leave - in. IMO, the deva products all work best when used together.

DevaCurl Low Poo, Re:coil, joiwhip, L.A. Looks Curl Gel, and it seems that MopTop Gel is becoming one, as well as, their condish.

PixieCurl 07-27-2007 05:29 PM

Another vote for Devacurl One Condition. It's most certainly a must-have for me. I also use No Poo to wash (around once a week), and Set It Free. I could go without the Set It Free if I needed to though, lots of left-in One Condition seems to be enough to give me happy hair.

Slight guano: What's the difference between DevaCurl OneC and DevaCare OneC? I have DevaCare and haven't been as happy as everyone seems with DevaCurl.

Must have products: Ouidad Leave-In, AG Re:coil, Joiwhip, Abba Weightless Gel, SIF

jeamaria 07-27-2007 06:24 PM

Honey- I add this to almost every conditioner I use. Always adds at least 50% to the moisturizing ability.

Coconut oil: I add this to conditioner for pre-wash treatments and it really penetrates the hair and over time makes it stronger.

A slippery conditioner (Devacurl One C or Wet N Wavy conditioner, but really anything that gives me good slip).

Elasta QP Feels Like Silk Gel-Very smoothing, liquidy but dense gel, CANNOT flake. I don't use this as a gel, but as a leave in, but I've read rave reviews for it as a styler.

Paul Mitchell The Conditioner- *The* leave in for styling from wet hair, or when heat styling.

One thick gel and one light one, so my hair never gets too used to one (type of) styler. The thick ones I like are from Fantasia IC and most Ecostyler gels.

Any cocobetaine low-poo for clarifying (long as it isn't too conditioning-those types tend to build up on my hair)

Oh and my Denman D4 brush, great for detangling and smoothing product through thick hair like mine.

Too Shea and honey

Suburbanbushbabe 07-27-2007 08:29 PM

Every product in the known universe (JK). Must haves right now are

- a conditioning cleanser (BB cleansing conditioner)
- leave in (SheaMoisture Sheabutter leave-in)
- a gel (I'm liking PM Round Trip, and AO Mandarin Magic of course)
- Afro Detangler
- an occasional low-poo (LLL Green Tea Hair Cleanse) and a conditioner (I am loving John Masters Citris/Neroli, but it's too expensive. I'll go back to RC)
- Set it Free and a pomade product

devacare is thicker and more moisturizing, devacurl is lighter and easier to detangle with

selfcurledgirl 07-28-2007 03:48 PM

Pinky- I find that the devacurl products are better for me than the devacare ones. Devacare is supposed to be for colored hair and more moisturizing but devaculr one c is perfect and enough moisture. I would definitely try that instead. I just use the deva products.

I don't really have any must haves in terms of brands of products, but I do need certain types of products.

For instance:

A really good detangling conditioner, otherwise combing out my hair is a miserable experience.

A moisturizing leave-in

Gel

Of all the types of products listed, I have about 2-4 of each that I know work really well with my hair. None of them are Deva products though. I've never tried that brand.

JuicyTube 07-28-2007 04:05 PM

conditioner

CurliLocks 07-28-2007 04:56 PM

My must-have is Robert Craig's Conditioner. I could live without my CK and gel if I had to, but I'll never give up my RC conditioner! :D It's great for CG and it's top of laurabeth's list! :)

Trader Joe's Nourish condish (my new fave).

I am another fan of One C though.

Good daily conditioner.

Super-rich deep conditioner: ORS' Olive Oil Replenishing Pack, or Neutrogena TM, or Aussie 3 Minute, or Pantene Smooth, or one of many many many others.

A good oil (mixed oils) or oil-based lotion: I like Hot Six Oil and ORS's Olive Oil Moisturizing Lotion.

Optimum Therapy pomade is another must. I suppose that goes into the "oil" category too?

Gel: LA Looks' Wet Look.

If I had to go to the absolute bare minimum I'd say deep conditioner and gel.

Africa's Best Shea Butter and Tea Tree Oil Moisturizer by Africa Organics. I'm not sure how moisturizing it is but it sure helps with the frizz and it's way cheaper then any other product out there.

Products that I will not allow myself to run out of EVER: Joiwhip, Batia & Aleeza gel, Jessicurl WDT. There's quite a few conditioners I like, so I can run out of one and not replace it for a little while. My favorites are Elucence, Kenra moisturizing, and Lacoupe silky smoothing something (orange bottle). I generally have at least 2 of these on hand.

I was not a big fan of the Deva line, but I think I'm in the minority. I haven't tried no-poo or low-poo, so I can't comment on those, but I absolutely HATED OneC. The gels did nothing for me, and SIF was decent but VERY smelly and not worth the price to me.

Darn, my pj was screaming to pick up One C until I read Bailey's post!!! (Perhaps there is a little size I can try). I found Set it Free and Mist-er Right at Ulta and have loved using them as pick me ups.

Errrr to answer the question: current faves are EMBS and HEBE, subject to change at the drop of a hat or the next trip to Ulta.
