I have mixed it with a bit of honey. I also have mixed it with other gels. I know some use it on it's own but it does not have enough hold for me to do that.

What is it supposed to do? Does it help with clumping?

I add it to my conditioner, especially on the ends of my hair to provide more moisture. I always rinse it out though before styling.
