CG BLAH!
I decided today I was going to try to go CG - and do a cowash with some 365 herbal mint conditioner (very light conditioner from whole foods, doesn't condition TOO deeply so I've been using it as shaving lotion... works great! haha ). big mistake. I did the cowash, scrubbed nice and hard, and then conditioned the length with a teeny tiny tiny bit of Body Shop Honey conditioner (yes it has amodimethicone in it but... whatever!). felt nice and clean in the shower. ohhh boy when it dried it was GREASY and STRINGY and still frizzy somehow and GROSS!!! I washed it immediately - with sulfate free shampoo. I guess the whole CG thing is just never going to happen for me.... I'm too much of a grease-ball. *sigh* just wanted to share.

CG definitely takes time to adjust to. But the fact that it was so greasy is concerning. If it wasn't greasy before the cowash, it shouldn't be greasy after it i wonder if it isn't the products you're using. i don't know anything about them, though. i've never used those condishes, and i don't know your styling products and routines. i have never had "greasy" hair once doing cg, even the first few days when i was cowashing every day. so i wonder if there is something wrong we're not catching.

i don't know .... it could be the products. but honestly I think my hair is just very grease-prone. my routine isn't much of anything, I put about a pea size dollop of either Innersense Quiet calm curl control, MOP C-curl creme, or Jessicurl Rockin Ringlets in my hair, and that's it. I don't layer products or cocktail anything... and I definitely don't put anything near my roots. back in the day when I used to go a day or 2 without shampooing, my hair would get incredibly oily, so I think that putting in conditioner when I haven't shampooed is just asking for it... I just don't think my hair needs that much moisture... I don't know though! what do you guys think??

What if you water washed and just conditioned the ends?

Well if you're a 2a/b, then you're right, you probably don't need as much conditioning. Generally, the curlier the hair, the drier the hair, b/c moisture can't travel down the curls as easily as it can down straighter hair.
If it aint broke, don't fix it. However, if you think your hair is a little dry from so much shampoo, you could try shampooing every other day, and water washing in between, w/o using extra conditioner, or just conditioning on the ends.

Modified, because I use sulfate free shampoo once a week. I get bored with just co washing all the time!

You mean the difference between CG and Mod-CG? Well, CG is very strict. Users don't use any -cones, especially ones that aren't water-soluble (meaning they can be removed with just plain water). They don't use any shampoos, not even gentle ones - they use Co-washes (conditioner washes). Basically, they use conditoner to clean their hair.
Modified CG is a little different. Users use -cones that are water-soluble or that come out easily (amodimethicone, etc). Such "easy-to-get-out" cones can be removed with a very gentle cleanser such as coco-betaine. Mod CG-ers such as myself 'poo a couple times a week with a gentle cleanser with no sulfates, which are harsh.
Here's a post I made that goes very into detail.

I think I am going to try water washing every other day and see how that works... but from what I've experienced in the past, my hair gets pretty greasy even without conditioner when I water-wash. I'm hoping my hair can handle a gentle shampoo every other day instead of everyday, so maybe I can slowly wean it off of the everyday poo.... but we'll see. I'll keep you all updated.....

Ok, I have been trying this lately and I end up with a greasy head the next day. And is USED to work for me. Maybe I need a trim, maybe I am using the wrong conditioner or product afterward. Maybe I am going too long between shampoos. I really have to shampoo about once a week or 10 days. My hair is just put through a lot of sweat (I own a fitness centre) or dirt or city pollution...I don't know. We will see how it goes after my trim.

Neither. I use sulfates and cones and can't stand gel. CG doesn't work for me at all.

The only thing makes me not fully CG is that I cowash more than once a week and I usually put conditioner on all of my hair. Today I tried water washing and conditioning just the length, and we'll see if it makes my crown frizzy.

I use mild sulfates and will use the occasional cone. Without sulfates my hair gets greasy. I tried full on CG for 2 months last year and my hair looked horrible.
