About Shampoo use

Okay, I am on a shampoo "quest" here... Bare with me..

1. What type of shampoo do you use?
(poll)

2. Also how do you use it?
For example; just on scalp, diluted....

3. How often?

I am trying to learn how to use shampoo.
Before CG I washed my hair like crazy with SLS shampoo. :P

Let me see...

I use a no sulphate poo once a week to get rid of any silicone buildup.

I use a sulphate & EDTA poo once a month to get rid of hard water mineral buildup.

I shampoo my scalp, but it gets onto the rest of my hair. I don't see how it can't.

I put a dollop in my palm & add some water to it just so it spreads easier between my hands then I apply it. So, yes, I dilute it, somewhat.

I always used Avalon Organics Rosemary shampoo but when I went to the store to stock up saw they revamped the line and added a Tee Tree version. I tried the shampoo & conditioner and I love it. I used to hate AO conditioners but this new formula is awesome (as is the shampoo). I love the tee tree oil for my scalp.

oh, forgot to answer:

I use it every day (I'm not a no pooer)

I use it on my hair and scalp.

Re: About Shampoo use

because I can never resist a good poll...

1. What type of shampoo do you use?
I only use gentle non SLS 'cleansers' like Deva NP/LP or Jessicurl HCC

2. Also how do you use it?
I mainly use them just on the scalp, and try to massage them in all around the scalp really well, then let them 'sit' there and do their thing while I finish showering or give a quick pumice/file on my feet, etc. Then I rinse. Sometimes, if my hair feels particularly producty, I will lightly smooth on a little bit over the rest of my hair. And sometimes I will lightly coat my ends with conditioner, but I don't usually both to do that and especially not with the NP.

3. How often? uggh, this really varies. I try not to use one of the above more than once a week. It all depends on the weather/seasons/products I've been using. I think in the winter I try not to use the LP or HCC more than once every 2 weeks, but and the NP once a week. If not I at least do a co-wash once a week and maybe NP another time during the week. I just tried Elucence as a co-wash a couple of weeks ago and thought it did a great job. :)

You mentioned that before CG you washed your hair like crazy with SLS shampoo. I remember I always dreaded 'shampooing' my hair, because it meant having to detangle the mess, and a big major workout to blowdry it straight, etc. But I always looked forward to the conditioning part. :) Besides I always felt my hair looked better the day after shampooing anyway, and unless it was summertime, I probably didn't poo more than twice a week anyway. I just dreaded it too much. I think all that time it was just my hair's way of begging me to stop with the sls' already!

Re: About Shampoo use

1. What type of shampoo do you use?
Im using a gentle one, like the Low-poo once a week to clean my scalp and hair.

3. Also how do you use it?
I put a tsp amount of low-poo into my palms and then massaging my way through my scalp making sure its all clean, then i take my fingers and rake it through my hair to be sure it gets clean to. before that I put One C on my ends so that my low-poo wont dry them out

3. How often?
I do this once a week, I believe hair needs to be clean once a week with a gentle schampoo.

shampoo

Usually a shampoo with a milder sulfate - Aveda Black Malva (ammonium sulfate), getting back to using Creme of Nature (coco-betaine), starting to use L'anza (tea lauryl sulfate), but sometimes I'll use an SLS one that feels moisturizing, with no problems.
I get it onto my scalp first as I oil my scalp. I use maybe two medium sized puddles for that - massage into my wet scalp, massage scalp for a few minutes, then add another puddle to my hair length and rake or comb to distribute, rinse thoroughly, condition hair and scalp right away.
I don't shampoo that often - no more than once a week, and shampoo doesn't really seem to affect my hair that much.

Yeah Kurlee it's me again!

I use Elucence Poo! (the low sulfate poo)

2 times a week

Scalp and hair and here is why...
 my personal feelings are if you use something that will cause build up in you "hair" you need to wash your "hair" and not just your scalp. Furthermore if you wash your scalp isn't that going to get into your hair anyway when you rinse anyway? Then I follow up with Elucence condish which I only use a quarter size amount because my hair gets weighed down easily.

I couldn't answer the poll because I care so little about sulfates that I don't even know what my shampoo has! I use Ouidad PlayCurl every day, mostly at the roots, then a little over the rest.

~curlyfry~ 03-05-2005 11:21 AM

i use devacurl no-poo once a week and biolage ultra hydrating shampoo once a month to get rid of any build up. the biolage does have als, sls, etc. but it's lower in the ingredients.
