Default Is hairspray okay???

I am new here, so I apologize if this has been covered previously. Is hairspray okay to use? I am just beginning to gain some contral over my hair with the tips on this site, but I am not sure if hairspray is taboo or not. Damaging or not? Please advise. Thanks!

It depends. Many hairsprays have drying alcohols (such as isopropyl alcohol - rubbing alcohol) in them. You have to look at the ingredients - what're the ingredients of your current spray?

I use Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine daily. It works fine for me and I don't have a problem with it drying my hair out. Everyone is different though!

Yep, it has alcohol. Are there any holding sprays that do not not dry the hair and alcohol free?

I just started using an LA Looks spray gel. The mist comes out very fine like a hairspray, but the consistency is gellier.

Well, there are alcohols that aren't drying. What type of alcohol is in your spray?

There are sprays that are "bad" alcohol free, but it depends on what you want. Do you want a spray for fixation/hold? Or one to refresh your hair?

It is Pantene Style and Alcohol Denat is the first ingredient. I need something that will hold the style. I tend to loose the curl around my face quickly. It may be because I have not found the right styling products for my hair. I just ordered the Jessicurl Rich Trial kit, so I hope that these will work. I think that maybe if I find the right poducts for my hair the curl and style will hold without a hairspray.

Yeah, Alcohol Denat is a drying alcohol, but you Jessicurl will probably help you. RR is very curl enhancing, so it'll boost the curls that you tend to loose. Confident Coils also has pretty good hold, so that could help. You could also try a strong gel, such as LA Looks Sport, which has no drying alcohols and great hold.

I have found that I really don't need hairspray since finding this site and going modified CG. (My curls are less frizzy and more defined on their own). I've heard Nexxus makes an alcohol free hairspray. Many on here use spray gel as a finisher. I found Herbal Essences Set Me up Spray gel to be pretty good for the price. IMO it is okay to use hairspray once in awhile if you are pretty good to your hair the rest of the time. If you want your hair to stay put but still have flexibility the best hairspray I have tried is Bed Head Maxxed Out. It doesn't mess around (but does contain alcohol
)!

I really like JOICO Ice Shaping Hair Spray. I don't use it all the time but my curls have a tendancy to be very lazy and fall out so if I am going out and want them to 'stay put' I will use hair spray. This stuff smells AWESOME!
