Parafin, Jojoba, Parabens...

Between conditioning I use jojoba oil to the ends of my hair. I've been hoping to find out more about oils, but haven't seen much info(maybe I'm looking in the wrong place)

My conditioner is pretty heavy duty, and contains parafin- Anyone used products containing parafin? How have they been? Is it terrible for hair?

I'm particular about toxins in beauty products - mostly Parabens as they are poisonous for our reproductive systems (and mine has issues anyway), and wow, they are in everything! Of course the sulfates are toxic too (not just bad for hair)
along with Antifreeze! (propylene glycol) How can companies put this stuff in all of our products???

So in short, oil and parafin- opinions?

Wonderful products sans toxins?

thanks
I'd ditch the paraffin!

I love oils, I've tried jojoba, coconut, but olive oil has always been my favorite. Not all hair types can take oils though, my hair is pretty dry so it just sucks it up.
My hair happens to love oils, so I buy a conditioner full of them. Some people have hair that does not tolerate oils very well. it seems to be one of those trial and error ingredients. you have to try them out to see how they work for you.

Paraffins can build up on curlies, especially if they are not using a sulfate shampoo.

While I feel that the link between cancer causality and parabens is tenuous at best and mainly something used by the organics industry to make money, one can find plenty of paraben free hair care products. If you have a health food store, products abound. My main rinse out conditioner (from Aubrey Organics) happens to be paraben and petrochemical free. Other lines have gone this route as well.

You can check Curlmart and look at some of the ingredient lists to see what catches your eye.

Hey I am totally with you on not flooding our bodies full of unnecessary toxins when we are confronted enough by them in daily life. Through extensive research, I have come to the conclusion that it makes a lot of sense to go organic when possible. (To avoid getting sick, allergies, live more green etc.) I am glad there are so many options out there for poos and condish. I have a lot harder time finding stylers that aren't absolutely loaded with "toxins."

My hair tends to love oils as well. Jessicurl has been really good for my hair, especially Hair Cleansing Cream and Too Shea. I know the Island Fantasy is not a natural scent, but the citrus lavender is. Trader Joe's Nourish Condish is my fave right now. I think those with fine hair avoid oils more as it may weigh them down. I get build up of oils only when I use too much. I currently use jojoba oil and it works great for me. In the winter I plan to experiment w/ different types.

I would be very interested to see a list of paraben free and organic/ or products without potentially harmful chemicals. Maybe such a list already exists? If not, maybe the curlies could start one?
