New here

I've been fighting my wavy hair for several years. As a child, my hair was bone straight - not a chance it would even hold a curl with hairspray. Hormones, age and 2 babies has given me wavy hair. As I've grown my hair longer (shoulder length it is now, and that's the longest it's ever been), I started noticing a wavy underlayer of hair that would not go away - no iron, product, etc would get rid of it. Then I found the CG book on a blog and checked it out from the library. Well, I'm not a great stylist and the idea of wash and go hair was a great incentive to let my hair go curly/wavy. I'm on day 2. So far, so good.

However, I do have a question - I have baby-fine, really thin hair as well as it being wavy. Any tips? Is once a week shampooing really enough considering my hair is so fine? Normally I've shampooed every other day on a regular basis, but by day 2 my hair looks pretty greasy.

I went through my hair products and threw out the bad stuff. Temporarily I've bought a shampoo, conditioner and gel that while not perfect, are pretty good when compared with the list in the CG book. I'm interested to try some of the products at the CurlMart.

Thanks! Any tips from other wavy, fine and thin girls would be appreciated.
Welcome! I'm no expert, but my hair is fine, 3a and just wavy in the back. My routine is Suave Natural Cucumber and Melon Conditioner or VO5 Tea Therapy Conditioner to CO wash every 3 - 5 days. Then I've been having good luck with a combination of aloe vera gel mixed with a tiny bit (pea-sized) drop of honey. My hair is short - jaw-length, so I don't need very much. I am considering trying Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Gel, as I've heard that's a nice gel for fine hair that doesn't want a lot of crunch. I've also read good things about LA Looks Durahold gel, so I might try it too. Basically you'll want to try different things until you see how your hair reacts. If you still feel like you need a shampoo, some fine wavies like Giovanni 50/50 (available at Ulta) and/or Elucence Moisture Balance which you can get at Curl Mart. Good luck!!

Hi and welcome to nc.com!

Be sure to check out the "2 Forum" to get more tips as well .

I bought Totally Twisted (gel and mousse) and have not been thrilled with either one. They've been leaving my hair kinda limp, but then again I'm north of Houston and we're having very high temps with high humidity. I had used the gel back when it first came out and liked it, so I think I might have used it when it was cooler. I prefer the Body Envy or Set Me Up (also by Herbal Essence).

I'm also partial to the Garnier Fructis line as my hair seems to like their stuff. I use the Curl-n-Shine stuff (conditioner and leave-in), Soft Curl Cream, XXL Weightless Volume Gel and Brilliantine Cream Gel.

Jessicurl is also very good. I like the Too Shea, Aloeba and Confident Coils Styling Solution the best.

My winter time favorite is Graham Webb Making Waves over the Curl-n-Shine conditioner.

I'm still looking for the Durahold. Apparently it hasn't made it's way to southeast Texas yet .

I'm throwing in the towel on this curly hair business. Call me a quitter, if you want, but after 3 days of no shampoo, my hair looks embarrassing. There is simply no way I'm going to last 3 weeks with only a shampoo every 4 days. I look like I got out of bed and walked out the door - it looks messy, unprofessional and just plain icky. Between the fineness and thinness and oiliness - it just isn't working out.

I'm going back to my shampoo and hair dryer. Good luck to the rest of you.
