Nice front, stringy back...

This is what has become the pattern. I have always known my hair is less curly in the back, some parts could even count as wavy. But the hair in the back isn't responding to my routine. The front is great when I get it right and the weather is good and I don't touch and no one looks at it funny and...well you know how it is! But the back is so stringy. Teeny thin curls, flat bits, frizz and fluff, and, well, not much curl.

The truth is, my front curls whispered to me today that they didn't want to hang out with my back curls anymore, cos, and I quote, "they are making us look bad!" I don't want to upset my back curls, but I can understand how the fronties are feeling when they are behaving so well and looking so great!

Will I have to have a different routine for the back?? It seems like a bit of a faff!

Does anyone else have 2 routines for their different types of hair?

But then again, too few to mention...
Know what? My hair does the same thing, and then the front says to me..."You need a couple of layers you silly fool." Which at this point it's screaming for it. I just haven't had the $$ for it yet. So I may just need to clip a few myself or try to teach my DH to do it. yep, I said it. But I have full confidence in his abilities. After all, I let him cut my hair when it was short so why not now? It's easier to camoflage any damage now that it's long...
So maybe long layers would help? I usually don't let anyone cut layers any shorter than my chin which usually helps...just a thought...

Now you mention it, the back of my hair has absolutely no layers at all, and the front does have some that I did myself. So this may be a solution. Its not the pennies that keep me from having the snip (hehe) but my absolute terror of salons and stylists! (many bad bad memories)

I recently made a new curly friend who told me where she gets her hair cut, hers always looks nice, although she did say they always try to get her to let them straighten it *sigh*.

Looks like a trim is in order!

I have the exact same problem! I was wondering if the plunking/plopping was flattening the back?

I have the same issue!! I've only recently noticed (mostly because I am taking pictures for my fotki he he ), but it really pisses me off!!

But, I have layers in the back so I guess that's not my problem and I am all alone

I have the exact same problem. I was thinking maybe it was because my hair was getting much longer than before and it was pulling the curl out. It is weird though it is only in the back. My sides have awesome 3a boticelli curls. I just want the rest to be the same... is that too much to ask??

twistedgirl - Would you mind sharing your routine?? Maybe that would help me out.
I have this problem too. Great curls in the front, stringier straighter ones in the back.

I think I need some more layers in the back. If I diffuse this portion sort of rightside up and sidewways, it helps some, but it doesn't get as curly as the front. It has become more of a problem in the last 6 months now that i have much more length, so I may just need a cut in general. My curls may have just hit their maximum boing length.

It's nice to know that others deal with this too.
