It seems to me that the technique of plopping would be best for those with longer hair. For me, my hair is about an inch and half ABOVE my shoulders. I can just see myself flipping my hair down into a towel and then my hair drying straight up in the hair!!!

Is there an alternative method that is good for the shorties?

I have short hair and I just do the normal turban thing with a microfiber towel....I just have to be careful not get pieces caught up in the twisty part of the towel.

My hair isn't even chin length yet, so I totally understand where you are coming from! I take my microfiber towel and use it to scrunch the water out of my hair. I stand up for the sides, but bend over for the top and back. Just like with scrunching products in with the pushing hair up to the head and squishing the hair in the towel. Seems to work for me.

My hair is short (think nape of neck when dry) and I plop without problem. Just like others I just need to be aware of where the hair is in the towel so I don't end up with weird curls.

This is SO inconvenient but the only way I could get any volume with my short haircut was to "flop." I used to sit on my knees on my bed and flip my hair over onto the bed in front of a small fan and let it dry out for 5-7 minutes. I originally started doing that in the summer when I would get out of the shower and already be sweaty; so I would go sit in front of the fan for a few minutes until I could bear to start diffusing. It always gave me a lot of lift at the roots and gave my curls a chance to "solidify" before I started beating them up with the blow dryer.

Now that my hair is short, I can still plop but only for a very short time. I plop very loosely too, so that my hair doesn't get too scrunched up. Or I just scrunch the water out with several paper towels and skip the plopping altogether.

That is what I have been doing except with a tshirt. I have not been brave enough to try plopping since the cut.
