Default Another "lotion in hair" question...

After reading the thread about using Burt's Bees lotion in the hair, today I was using my ALL TIME FAVORITE lotion, and I read the ingredients:

Water, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Ethanol (denatured w/Organic Peppermint Oil), Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Avocado Oil, Organic Peppermint Oil, Organic Rice Bran Extract, Xanthan Gum, Tocopherols

It's the Peppermint lotion http://www.drbronner.com/sun_organic_lotions.html

After I rubbed it in my hands, I scrunched a little in my hair. Oh, the peppermint smell of this stuff is heavenly.

But I'm wondering if the alcohol or peppermint is drying?

I liked the results!

Um, yes. Peppermint is quite drying and alcohol is very drying.

Rats. I figured as much. So much for my peppermint hair.

I wonder how a lotion, that works well, be so drying?

Is ethanol one of the drying alcohols? I have a feeling that it is -- but there are many alcohols that are moisturizing & that appear in all our favorite hair stuff. As for the mint, like tea tree oil, it's stimulating for the scalp. I imagine they could both be drying to the hair, but again, they are in some of our other hair products, as well, so who knows, it might work for you.

I've been looking at my lotions, too. It's interesting to see how many different products we use that are essentially the same (cf: the KY in hair discussion!). I'd be careful about the waxes that are in a lot of lotions.

Any day I expect to see a thread that begins, "I was brushing my teeth this morning and I wondered if my toothpaste could be curl enhancing . . . "
