I must be a freak because John Frieda's "Dream Curls" worked fantastically well for me -- but I never applied it to dry hair, only wet or damp. The rest of the JF products I've found to be OK, not bad or great, and his "Secret Weapon" pomade (which is the same as the "Shine Shock" in his Brunettes line -- only the latter smells much better) is practically an HG product for me.
And I hate the new formula of the Aussie 3 Minute Conditioner, with mint or something in it. I loathe all things minty.

Ok I'm big on smells, if anything has a strong fruit or chemical smell it give me a headache.
A girl I used to share on office with was a fellow curly and she used strickly Aussie products and every morning I felt dizzy at how bad it smelled, plus her hair always looked dry and full of products.
Stricly curls felt like I had dried glue in my hair.
Curls rock shampoo always made me feel Like I needed to shampoo
JF brown toner type stuff, stained my hands and smelled horrible.

My worst products are by far
TARIA CURLZ. The who line is pointless and did nothing for my hair. thank goodness I only purchased samples.
MIXED CHICKS STYLING CREAM. This product left my hair dry, frizzy, sticky, and with build up.
ETA: I also think KICK FOR CURLS is a waste of space, why bother when I can get the same affects using water in a bottle.

Oh man, I love this thread. I've been wearing my hair curly since middle school, but I had absolutely no idea how to control it or keep it healthy. When I think now of all of the products I used to smother my hair in...wow. I've used some pretty bad stuff over the years, but at the time I didn't realize there was a better alternative.
I agree with everyone who's mentioned John Frieda's Frizz Ease...my mom used to swear by this stuff (I got my curls from her!) and I used it on and off for years, but I hated the greasiness of it.
I also used to use L'Oreal's Scrunching Curls Mousse...very crunchy. (Although at the time I wanted that look because I preferred it over a halo of frizz!)

Ditto on the frizz ease! My old hairdresser told me he had no idea why someone as talented as john freida would create such garbage!.
My hair actually looked really good a few years ago when I used Curl.life by Matrix. Hmm. Also looks good with Back to Basics Raspberry Almond. Or Paul Mitchell's Gloss Drops. Don't know but my hair isn't fond of sulfates but doesn't seem to mind the cones as much!
Let's see what else;
Nature's Gate Jojoba Shampoo, or the Hemp one, or the Lemongrass and verbena one. Didn't like the herbal conditioner.(too heavy and strong smelling) (like the chammomile con. though)

I may have already posted in this thread, but I'm too lazy to search the other 4 pages I've already read a while back. XP
I hated CON CONDITIONER! Oh, don't get me started on that smell. It was bad, bad, bad. Anything GF makes my hair feel waxy and gross.

Abba weightless gel. It made my hair horribly dry and crunchy and did nothing for my waves/curls.

These were not good for my hair:
Miss Jessies Baby Buttercream
IC Fantasia clear
Batia and Aleeza gel
Trader Joe Nourish shampoo
There are more, but I traded them and forgot about them.

Frizz Ease serum is good for when you're trying to straighten your hair, but yeah dont use it on natural hair.

i just remembered most really bad products.
Luster's Pink Moisturizer Gel and Moisture creme (Don't even get me started in this product)
ALL froms of GREASE (the days of not knowing any better)
Palmers Hair Care Range (came up in a rash)
S-curl (dried the hair so badly it looked as though I'd dyed it ginger)
Curl activators from ethnic shops (the same as the S-curl)
For the best part of 19 years my hair has been so badly treated that I'm actually surprised I have any hair on my head let alone shoulder length hair that is still growing)

I've used a lot of lousy products over the years, but the two that stand out are Burt's Bee's avocado conditioner which left my hair looking and feeling absolutely horrible. I also hated the Garnier products--can't even think of the name right now, but the one that has the wax in it. Horrible stuff!

Yep. Big time "ditto" for me on this one. At the salon, they worked fine but when I got them home and used them, they always left ugly residue, made me sticky, and weighed my hair down. My curls always looked frizzy and my hair was dry dry dry.
I sure was happy to get rid of those products when I went CG.

The first product I ever tried for my hair (by then I was far into the CG routine) was Garnier Fructis Soft Curl Cream. It is also the last product. It totally turned me off of creams, gels, and mousse. I still don't know how to use it. It's waxy and straightened out my hair while making it look really greasy. It is still sitting in my bathroom, goopy, greasy, and disgusting.
The only reason I bought it was because it smelled really good.
