Let's Play a Game....There is a reward at the end ;)

It is called "So, help me pick a shampoo." :D

In the market for a new shampoo. I have fine 3c hair and I am looking for a shampoo that I can buy from a (health food) store that is gentle yet very effective at cleansing my hair of the water-soluble silicones I use.

Nature’s Gate Original Herbal Shampoo
Purified Water, Extracts of Nettle, Sage, Chamomile, Kusambi Bark, Lavender, Yarrow, Rosemary, Wild Cherry Bark and Thyme, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Citric Acid, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Chlorophyllin, Fragrance Oils

Nature’s Gate Organics Chamomile & Lemon Verbena Shampoo
Chamomile & Lemon Verbena Shampoo (for dry, damaged, chemically treated hair) gently cleans and moisturizes dry hair or hair damaged by coloring and perm agents. Infused with Chamomile essential oil and Certified Organic Lemon Verbena Floral Water, an intense elixir of plant essences. Certified Organic Aloe Vera, Marshmallow, Horsetail and Witch Hazel nourish hair while Phytoproteins and Pro-vitamins add body and luster.

Giovanni 50/50 Shampoo
Infusion of Rosemary Extract (and) Birch Leaf Extract (and) Chamomile Extract (and) Sage Extract (and) St. John's Wort Extract (and) Coltsfoot Extract (and) Yarrow Extract (and) Mallow Extract (and) Horsetail Extract (and) Red clover Extract, Soy, *Sodium C12-14 Olefin Sulphonate, Grapefruit Seed Extract, *Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Trace Minerals, DL Panthenol, Cinnamate.

Tom’s of Maine Natural Moisturizing Shampoo
Water, Aloe vera leaf juice, Sodium lauryl sulfate, Glycerin, Coco-betaine, Lauramide DEA, Wheat protein Moisturizing, Lavender oil and other natural oils, Citric acid

PHYTOAlso, if any of you know the name of the SLS free PHYTO conditioner please let me know. I found it a while ago but when I went to the Sephora webpage I could not find it.

Left off the list:

Aubrey Organics—too drying for my hair
Kiss My Face—their shampoos (well at least the ones on their website) have sea salt in them so I assume they will be drying over time.
J/A/S/O/N—too many negative reviews
BWC—not found near me
Mastey Traite and other good online shampoos—do not want to pay shipping for shampoo
CON—responsible for many bad hair days
Trader Joe’s products—according to the reviews, shampoos may be too drying
Baby Shampoos

Thanks for playing! :P

ETA: If you choose other, please be specific and post your shampoo suggestion. Actually, it looks like my choices may be too drying so it would be great to have other shampoo suggestions. TIA

If you choose one from the list please post *why* you like it. :D

Another Edit: I posted some yummy Johnny Depp and Alejandro Sanz pictures as a thank you gift for all of you who voted.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Lamas Chinese herbs shampoo.... Comes in a blue bottle and has wonderful ingredients! Jessicurl Hair Cleansing Cream is very good too.

Of course, our hair is sooo very different, but I think you will like the Lamas product. It's gentle yet works really well! :D

Of the ones you listed, my vote would be the GIOVANNI 50/50 based on the ingredients (however, I've never tried it so can't vouch for its effectiveness or performance).

Nice to have you back! Hope you got a lot of work done in your absence

Can I buy those from the store? Budget is tight (do not get paid over the summer) so I only want a product I can buy from a store such as Whole Foods, Trader Joes, my local health food stores, or Sephora.

I am not really back—I just need a new shampoo. Once I find that, I will disappear again into the abyss of graduate work LOL. Thanks for missing me :D . I miss the board too but I cannot work and play at the same time  :( . But, I will pop in once in a while so you guys know I am still alive LOL. I may just have pictures.....

Cehua-

I'm pretty sure you can get the Lamas chinese herbs shampoo from places like Whole Foods. It is a classic health food store beauty product. And I HEAR YOU about it being hard to work and play (or work and play IRL and play on NC). I actually want to stop posting so much too and am trying to wean myself off but it's hard :?

Anyway, Cehua hair pictures sound good and I will keep an eye out.

I've been wondering - who is in your avatar now?

Tease! (Re: the pics.)
Again, my hair is different from yours and is not fine, but I hate Giovanni everything with a passion. I am disappointed because I so want to like it and I can buy it from a store on my block, but something in the shampoo and conditioner (my guess is the soy) makes my hair frizzy, dry and dull - and they are so light, they don't give me nearly enough weight and moisture. Make sure you can return it!

Since you like KeraSoft, how about their shampoo?
Have you tried Creme of Nature? It might be on the heavy side for you maybe?
I am having good luck with shampoos by Kiehl's (very gentle) and Aubrey Organics - I like the Island Fantasy, which cleanses with coconut soap.
L'anza also has one with very gentle sulfates (Dry Hair Formula) that I like.

Amneris-

I have the Aubrey Organics Island Fantasy shampoo too!! It came in a twin pack with the conditioner as buy one, get one free :!: So, I could not resist 8) I'll have to try it soon since you recommend it!!

Also, agree with the tease comment :P but I am sure the pictures will be worth the wait.....

Okay, usually when Amneris says something is bad it is bad. I have CON in my “left off list.” It made my hair act weird and I had an itchy scalp (which almost never happens to me).

I really want to try the Kerasoft shampoo and debated buying it but I am trying to cut down on shipping costs. However, if it turns out to be the same amount (product + shipping costs) as a store brand here then I may order it.

Aubrey Organics (on my list too) worked for a while but I found that my hair took a long time to “recover.” I used to use the Island Fantasy and it was not bad but my hair was still kind of dry (that used to be my only shampoo up until recently).

Which Kiehl’s did you try?

Guano: but Amneris, how do you like the Reflex. If that is very good I might just order both the shampoo and the Reflex. I just hate shipping costs.

Noemie Lenoir. She is another one of my hair idols.

And patience ladies! I will have pictures soon. I am really bad about taking them. Plus I live alone and it is hard taking pictures of yourself.

ETA: Maybe I will go back to my AO Island Fantasy. I was a regular IF user until about a few months ago when I tried the CON (bad mistake). Then I used the Aubrey's Swimming conditioner to get rid of the CON build-up (even worse mistake). So when I went back to the Island Fantasy it was not working like it normally did so I stopped using it.

Amneris, how would you compare the Island Fantasy to the Kerasoft Shampoo?

I thought that looked like her! But her eyes look brown in your avatar picture and are hazel IRL. She is great looking and has fun, beautiful curls. Good taste!

I hate the conditioner (same problem as the Giovanni) but the shampoo is good.

You cannot really tell her eye color in this picture. I thought her eyes were green IRL or is that the same as hazel (thought hazel was a light brown).

I love her curls. This picture does not show her regular curls but I love it because she looks like she is having fun and the curls have been brushed out. It looks like party hair :D.

I haven't tried either yet!!! I am such a baddd little product hoarding PJ  But I will try them both soon and post some kind of review :D

I wanna play to, but can you believe it, I've never tired ANY of these shampoos :!:

Good luck on the hunt Cehua! :D

I did not like their conditioner either. The only one I found moisturizing was the Rose Mosqueta but that was so expensive ($9 for 4 oz).

Cehua-

Hazel is a blend of green and brown (or sometimes green and gray). It is a beautiful eye color that I really like, particuarly on men  But I like brown eyes a lot too.......

Amneris, how would you compare the Island Fantasy to the Kerasoft Shampoo?

honestly, Elucence works so well for me it doesn't seem to matter what shampoo I use lately - if it's drying, the Elucence fixes it instantly. Incidentally, I have their shampoos too but haven't tried them yet (I'm like you, curltopia, too much stuff to use.)
I like the Kerasoft better but obviously IF will be easier for you to get. And I like the Reflex a lot. It is a solid version of the Quench, which I think you are liking?
I have two Kiehl's shampoos - Amino Acid and Castile, and they're both good. I especially like the Castile.
I didn't know you had the same CoN itching issue as me! I haven't been able to use it either!

GASP (of shock and surprise)!!! But I've not tried any of them either... Now if she had listed as many types of CONDITIONERS and I had not tried any of them, I would be really shocked and disturbed 8) :P

Amneris 06-10-2005 03:52 PM

oh, I've had phyto used on me in a salon and I liked it but did not buy it because it is really, really expensive and I would rather spend that money on a conditioner, styler or hot tool than a shampoo I will use maybe twice a month.

That is what I thought hazel was. I always thought her eyes were green green because that is what I read in a magazine. But to tell you the truth I never really looked.

My uncles, some of my cousins, and my niece have green eyes but their eye color is a deeper green so if their eye color is green then perhaps Noemie's eye color is hazel. Gosh, I am a little embarrassed that I have given her eye color this much thought.

I have medium-light brown eyes. I love all eye colors especially those that are saturated with pigment (e.g., black, dark brown, green, deep blue).

I love the combination of deep blue eyes and brown skin. Some of my mother’s brothers are like that and they were quite the lady’s man.

I better get back to work. BF is away and I should not be thinking about men and eyes. I glanced at your Alejandro Sanz post and had to tear myself away   :D .

Keep the shampoo recommendations coming! :D
