curl keeper alternative

i was looking through my old pics and i remembered that curl keeper worked really well for me--the thing is, at $14 (before shipping) for 8 oz, and the amount i have to use, thats like a dollar a day for one product. So i was wondering if anyone had any cheaper, cg friendly alternatives for curl keeper--i'm looking for the definition aspect of it.
Thanks!

Just bumping because I'd like to know too. I really love CK, just recently started using, but I am dismayed by how fast I am using it up. Now I am rationing what I have left for days when I REALLY want good hair!
I've never tried CK but I've read that KY jelly has just about the same ingredients. You could buy the generic brand at Wal-Mart and see how it compares. Good Luck!

You can say what you want about the South, but you never hear of anyone retiring and moving North.
Silly as it sounds, KY worked as a good alternative for me.

Also, Flat Iron Finish by Easy Straight is very similar, but not much cheaper.

Please excuse any typos. For the time being, we are blaming it on my computer.
..are you guys serious?? who would have thought. but i have a question before i use it: what kind of consistency is ky jelly? (actually i'm planning on buying the generic version) Is it greasy like ointment or more like gel?

It feels a little greasier than gel to me. But my hair doesn't come out looking greasy when I use it. I only use it occasionally, though.

It's kind of between an ointment and a gel, but it doesn't leave your hair feeling greasy. It offers nothing for frizz control, but all I have to do is put another product over the palm of my hands and go over the outer layer of hair.

I am KY Jellin - its not heavy nor greasy on my hair, makes it look nicely hydrated actually. Its been just one week though but so far so good.
3B/C ; Suave Coconut Co-wash/LA Looks Gel or KCCC w/ KCKT (during the cooler months); I use Coconut &/or EVOO (Olive Oil) for Deep Conditioning.
I did the KY thing years ago, but when I posted about it, there weren't many who were willing to try it.

For days I am not wetting my hair, I use a quarter size and rub my hands together and sorta scrunch focusing on the ends also.
I noticed my curls spring back up but it looks hydrated and healthy.

so, i used the ky jelly (walmart brand) 3 days in a row using it different ways each time, but with no luck. it just left me frizzy and dry. i'm sad!!! kudos to all it worked for though! so my search for a cheaper ck continues.

You can buy the curl keeper the large size on the internet. I bought the small one because I wanted to try it out. I think it's 38 (not sure)
