Default Help for stringy waves

Hi Everyone!

Since starting the cg routine, my normally shiny, full wavy hair has turned into stringy almost jerri curls (except not as greasy) I had been using Loreal nutrigloss shampoo/conditioner and B&b curl conscious cream for fine hair. Anyway, my hair used to look great: body, clumping, shine. Now, not so much. According to CG, I'm between botticelli and wavy, closer to botticelli. According to NC typing, I'm 2c/3a, fine, but thick.

CG Routine: co wash with freeman sea kelp volume conditioner, condition with Shikai Color Reflect. Style with Jessicurl CCSS or gelebration spray.

Any advice or helpful threads I should look at?

Hi, Im quite new to the CG too so I dont profess to be an expert, but I know that it takes time for your scalp to adjust. You dont say how many times you CO wash and I found that most of the time my hair was Ok with just a water wash & usual conditioner and then maybe once a week to I used to CO wash the scalp. But now I do that less frequently.

I use Re-coil, it is a great product - sort of a creme which provides great curl definition and if I want more volume with a little hold then I use a little Joiwhip moose on top.

I have read that some curlies like to use a gentle SLS free shampoo once in a while which may help. I do too after a deep oil treatment.

Hope this helps

Thanks Ostara!

Yeah, I have been cowashing everyday, force of habit I guess. Maybe I need to tone it down with the moisturizing, I mean my hair wasn't really dry to begin with so.... ugh! I just want to brush my hair out so bad.
About the re:coil: does it weigh your hair down?

I can understand your frustrations, but maybe like you said do the CO wash less often as too much conditioner on the scalp may lead to the follicles becoming blocked. Another thing I really like to do is to use a Baking Soda rinse about once a fortnight. I just wet my hair and then mix about 1 tblsp of BS into warm water, swish it about a bit and then let it run over my hair - wait for a few minutes (and rub scalp gently) then rinse with water, then a final rinse of Apple Cider Vinger ( about 1 part in 5 ) this really cleanses & perks up my hair.

Also another good tip I read on here somewhere .... was to use a cheapish conditioner for CO washing and save the potent good stuff for the length of my hair. Im in the Uk but lots of US curlies love VO5.

I find Re.Coil to be very light but I only use about 1 - 2 pea sized amounts - rub it in between my palms and apply. It is my hero product, I prefered it to the Jessicurl CC as I found this a little drying.

Keep checking out all the good info on this site, there is so much helpful advice Im sure you will see an improvement soon.
