Default Found Coconut Oil at Wal-Mart!

I found some at Wal-Mart (in the baking aisle). It was $4 for a huge tub. I get to experiment this weekend!

That's great . I've seen it in some of the food aisles at supermarkets also. I really like coconut oil mixed with a little conditioner as an overnight treatment before I wash my hair.

I think the oil is too heavy for my hair. It came out greasy. I will just have to use it for cooking.

Hi Funnybean! Did you mix the coconut oil with conditioner? I have fine, wavy , healthy hair and I mix it 50:50 oil and Suave coconut conditioner and it just rinses right out in the AM. I used to use straight olive oil on my hair and THAT I really had to shampoo out, and it would still leave my hair a little limp and stringy.

How do you go about mixing it? The coconut oil is a solid. I will try it if I can figure it out. What is your process for leaving it in your hair?
Also, I see in your tag line that you use the TRESemme Vitamin E Moisture Rich. I tried leaving some in and it bubbled like shampoo... very weird. I had to rinse it all out again after I tried to apply product and plop. Do you have any problems with the Tresemme? I love the smell, but I think it might be drying out my hair.

If you can get some out of the container and melt it, or rub it between your hands you should be able to mix it easier. The coconut oil I had did not need to be refrigerated, and if you keep it at room temp it will stay a liquid.

I used the coconut oil as a leave-in and it was too greasy, but the next time I get it I'm going to try mixing it with conditioner. it sounds promising

Sure, I just mix the two and then I put it in the microwave for like 10 seconds maybe. Just enough to warm it through. If you put a little in the palm of your hand it should instantly melt, even if it's solid in the jar. Ok, then I put it in my hair like regular conditioner, except that I don't get within like 2-3 inches of my face b/c coconut oil can exacerbate acne. Then I wrap my head in saran wrap (cute first date look!) and then my plopping rag over that. Then in the morning, I wake up and it's like ... *sniff, sniff* hey who made coconut cake? oh wait, that's my head....

This is what I bought at Whole Foods:

who me? Does my profile really say that? I have tried the shampoo but I didn't care for it, can't speak to the conditioner.

Coconut oil as a leave-in was too much for my hair too. I've been putting it on my hair the night before I co or poo. Mixing it with conditioner sounds like a fun DT though! Must try this soon.

Hey Jcrew coconut oil is the best stuff ever!! Also when truly organic it is great for your face. Like going CG it will get worse before it gets better but regularly using it ALL OVER helps clear up many facial issues including blackheads and cystic pimples. Check out makeupalley.com and they have tons of reviews on the subject. I've been using it for 3 month and I have very oily skin and no acne for 3 months!!

hey shauna -- that's awesome! I'm sure it's different for everybody, it's just that my derm told me it can exacerbate existing acne, so I though I would pass that on. But it smells so fantastic, it's very tempting to just slather it all over!!! I'm loving using it on my hands before bed.

Different strokes for different folks. I use it on my knees and elbows w/ Epsom salt as exfoliation in the bath!

I love coconut oil! Find a small container you can fill and carry in your purse. It's great to have around mid-day if you hair starts to frizz or lose definition. It's also great to use a little throughout the day if you've straightened your hair, to keep it from frizzing.

And it makes your hair smell really good!
