Long Hair & Tangles When Washing

After I wash and condition my hair, I usually flip upside down and finish rinsing. No matter how much conditioner I put on my hair, I still stay terribly tangled at the nape, even if I've also washed with conditioner or Jessicurl HCC first. I've tried adding more conditioner after flipping over, but then I sometimes end up overconditioned. I suppose I could do my washing & conditioning upside down as well, but after that and then putting in products upside down as well, I can already hear my back screaming! Does anyone else have this problem and, if so, how do you deal with it?

The back of my hair doesn't stick out or get knotty, probably because I comb & detangle it a second time once I flip upside down. That's what getting to be such a hassle -- it's taking so long to detangle it because of the tangles at the nape. I guess I'll just have to try to get the amount of conditioner balanced right so it's not too much or just try washing & conditioning upside down & see how that works. I don't like doing my hair upright because it just lays too flat to my head & I'm not happy with the end result.

You put your leave-in after your gel? Interesting.

I get more knots when I wear stuff that bunches up on my neck and rubs against my hair, i.e. hoodies, my bathrobe, a fleece pullover that has a collar that sticks up. It's not the end all, be all solution, but I try to keep my hair off those areas, wet and dry. HTH.
