Did your curl pattern change over the years?

I was looking through old photos today, and I was shocked on how my hair has changed over the years. I so wish I could have the curls of my youth.

I found this old picture of me when I was probably 4 or 5. And my curls are tight corkscrews. They look like they just came off a curling iron and not yet combed to separate. And they are so clumpy you can barely see through them.

Then as I get to when I was a teen, my curls were larger more s-shaped. I don't really have any good hair pictures for most of my life, due to my mom's love of brushes.

Late teens/early 20's I had wavy hair, probably because of my hair routine, my efforts to control frizz and fly aways lead to straighter hair. I would purposefully try to smooth down my hair, not to straighten, but that was the end result. I used alot of silicone laden products, and I never knew I was supposed to use special products to get that gunk out.

And now, I have looser corkscrews at the roots, which turn into stringy s-curls at the ends.

Over the years I have tried a ton of different things, and had all kinds of lengths from pixie to mid-back, all kinds of styles, bobs, short and long layers. I wish sometimes I hadn't avoided the camera as much as I did. It's really interesting to see the changes my hair has made over the years.

my hair has more curl definition now than say, in 2000. I found old photos of a birthday party from my house and my curls were flat, no definition...I think it had to do with damage.
3a/3b thick coarse WL dark brown hair. CG/Mod CG since: 5/4/05. Current products: Right now my hair is in such a tizzy over this winter weather we are hving that nothing really seems to be working. I need a haircut.
When I was in high school my hair used to be 3b hard core at any length. Now I have looser 3a curls which gives the appearance of less volume. When it's long I have really well-formed ringlets, but since my cut the curls aren't forming so well anymore...

(I don't think you all know this yet... I cut my hair a few weeks ago from almost BSL to bob-length. I sort of regret it, a little.)

ETA when I was little my hair was board-straight. In 5th grade I started getting waves and it progressed through middle school to loose boticelli curls. It was its curliest in HS probably freshman or sophomore year. It's definitely lost a lot of its curl cause now I'm at a 3a or so. I also miss my curlier hair.

Fine and thin 3a. PW: curls
I've been thinking about this the last couple of days. I had corkscrews as a little one too, then it was brushed into waves and loose curls throughout grade school. In HS, I embraced them fully and wore it curly. But I have noticed the curls have changed, especially the last 5-6 yrs or so. Makes me wonder if it's true that hair changes every 7 yrs. My curls are looser now. I used to be a strong 3c, but now I'm a mix of 3b, 3c and 3a in that order. I miss my tighter curls.

Maybe after midterms I'll get some pictures taken...

I remember when I was 13ish, I had patches of hair behind my ears and right at the crown of my head that were so unbelievably dense and coily and really a completley different texture then the rest of my hair.

That's totally changed. I wonder if it had anything to do with the hormonal teen years.

My hair was less curly as a toddler, but that's about it.

This is sort of the opposite, but I had completely straight hair. Sometime in the middle school years I think it started getting wavy, but I got in the habit of blowdrying every single day, so I had no idea that it had natural curl. In HS I figured out that a straightener would help de-poof it (why did it not occur to me that if I had to straighten it then it must not have been straight?! ) It wasn't until my second year in college that it hit me--this hair is CURLY! Silly me!

This site has released my inner PJ demon...

I'm a 2b/3a in a perpetual search for the products that will actually give me a good hair day in this brutal heat and humidity!
The day I hit puberty, everyone could tell... My hair took over my head! My dad nicknamed me Medusa. For some reason, my hair at 14 became curly and frizzy. I had a little curl when I was like 5, mostly banana curls (a dumb look for a 14 year old). Thankfully, these eventually became nice, soft 2C curls that I have, with a lot of time and patience, learned to care for.

My hair always had body as a kid, but didn't really get curly until about 14. I am 30 now and just happened to find a picture in my desk from about 6 years ago - my hair was 100% 3a! I was having it dyed red at the time. It was so pretty and I was positively taking all that curl for granted at the time.

I had ringlets as a baby and toddler. Then waves due to my mom brushing it a lot. Still wavy when I was 13. Got a perm and I've been curly or frizzy ever since! Before I found this board I was probably 2b/2c and now I am a 3a with some 3b curls on a good day.

Mine have gotten tighter and tigher, everywhere except the front which lost all semblance of curl or wave.

I think this was due to a combination of time and styling damage. I am finally able to coax the front of my hair into tight albeit frizzy waves, thanks to CG. In fact, all of the different types on my hair have jumped up at least a letter since CG. So maybe all the moisture is bringing out my true curl.
Mine was poker straight for 30 years. Over the last 5 years the ends became curly and the canopy frizzy (I had hip length hair). I recently chopped it up to bra strap length and now I have waves all through and a frizzy canopy.

I don't much mind if I'm curly or wavy or straight...but I gotta get this frizz under control.

I'm just starting to get used to wavy/curly hair and it's a total change from my straight hair...I used to brush to make it polished and smooth. Now I'm finding the brush gives me more halo. It's a whole new world.

My hair has been pretty much the same since I was little, but it looks different depending on the length.
