Hi Maricurl! How are you doing?

And for all of you "Independents" and "Neutrals": I know we would all be happy either way but vote for the one you *had* to choose (sort of like the last US presidential election).

Also, if you post, do not forget to chime in on the idea (see first post with edits) you think would work the best for posting pictures (NC.com members or celebrities). That may help the NC.com founders choose an idea if they decide to update the hair type pictures.

hi cehua! i enjoyed the pics of you hair (finally ) i've been doing ok, but my hair has been doing great. i've become a big fan of HE humidity defying gel. the weather in CT has been super humid lately but this gel combined w/jessicurl products has really been keeping the frizz at bay. thanks for asking. :couple:couple.gif nc.com!

I think we should update the system first, before we think of pictures ...

It should focus on:

Curl/Wave Pattern and Tightness ( I don't understand why type 1abc and 2abc focus on the thickness of the strand, while 3abc and 4ab focus on the tightness or looseness of the pattern)
Density (the amout of strands on the head)
Thickness (the width of each indivdual strand)

Baby steps....

I think a lot of people would agree with this. There are other systems that sort address these issues (FIA and LOIS although this one is sort of confusing too) and some people on this site use them.

And I am sure our NC.com members could think of a better hair typing system to describe curly hair.

However to make things easier/more consistent, the majority of people on this site use the Andre's Hair Typing system. It has it quirks but I think it does the job that Andre intended it to do........it is not an exact science. LOL

Besides, it may confuse people if the system is revamped all of a sudden.

Maricurl: I am glad you are having fabulous hair days! Take care

I think LOIS is intended mainly for people with some sort of African heritage so it probably wouldn't address all the curlies here, anyway. Fia would probably work well.

Long Hair Care Community has an excellent break down of all the aspects of hair type. Shyygirl posted a link to it in one of the many 3C threads...

Wow..look where this went...way to go! I voted for nc.com curlies as the whole stylist thing can be misleading....half the curly celebs are straighties with good salons! And although asking those pictured for their routines is a tempting idea.....Plink, can you imagine how many PMs you would get if you were the 3B model?! But hey, we're all here to help eachother and real girls with real curls seem to be the way to go!

I am not sure if you were addressing me or popculturecouture but since I mentioned LOIS (ourhair.net) and FIA (from the longhaircommunity) I will reply.

Nope, I do not think LOIS is for every type of hair. I just wrote it in as an example of how other people have addressed the density and texture issue.

For pictures, I think it is better to stick with Andre's system since that is well known on this site and not very complicated.

With the celeb option all we know is that a stylist can make them look good.
I voted NC.com members and I like plink's idea.

I don't know if you are talking to me or not, but I will reply ... I think Andre's system is messed up and doesn't really type my hair and I have lurking and reading posts and lot of other wavies/curlies/nappies think so too ... didn't we have to admend the system to add 3C? Didn't some members add a new type 2.5?

Anyway, I didn't mean to take away from the original intent of the thread. To answer the OP, I think members from this board should on the site!!

I voted for NC.com photos, but I think a mix of NC.commers and celebs would be fine too. More examples of the hair types is the most important part of this issue to me. I think it's a great idea to show at least 2 pics per type, a shorter and longer. And I like the idea of including photos of hair that is in-between (3a/b, 3b/c, etc.) . Maybe the pictures could be arranged in a continuum, since probably most people are not 100% one type. Pictures arranged on a scale from the straightest to the curliest. I also like the idea of having a sort-of random lottery of which NC.com photos would be used. But I don't have a suggestion right now as to how, technically, all of this would be done! Just putting my 2 cents in!

i think it would be cool to use pictures of nc.com members, but might be better to use celebs for a couple reasons:

1 - people whose pics are used might get flooded with PM's about their routine (unless the board name is not used in the picture section, then they shouldn't get any more than normal if they post pictures on their own photo site)

2 - many people on this board are combo hair types or in between two hair types - the point of these pictures is to be the most representative of the one hairtype they're showing. however, there are SOME people on here who are one hairtype all the way and they would be good pictures to use.

I voted nc.com curlies. I think it would be a more realistic example of hair types. Also, I think that the link idea would be a great way to handle it. I would also like to see some pictures for us wavy girls too We may not be really curly; but, we are not straight either

I'd like to see NCers too. The comment about showing real hair without an army of stylists working it over makes sense to me.

I'd like to see the wavy hair types represented too. It's not always easy for wavies to figure out their type. And I think the wavies need equal representation!

I voted for NC.com wavies and curlies. I don't think celebrity hair is a good representation of real hair. Half the time they have weaves or chemicals in their hair. I want to see pics of a real life 2/3/4. I think it should just be their picture without their PM or name so like that they don't get too many PM's asking about routine.

I finally voted for NC.com curlies. Everyone has already made great points on this.

I do think it would be nice to also have some celebrity pictures though, because people look up to celebrities, and it's nice to see some sporting curly hair and being good role models.

Wow, it was hard to decide! I went with my first instinct choice when I read the options and that was the celebrity pics. I'd love to see a mix of celebs and members here also, though.

I think I went with celebs because whether their hair is done by a stylist or natural, we can relate more quickly with a celeb and alot of us have trouble figuring out exactly what we are.

But I'm glad someone finally said something about the pics! I think the "wavy girl" actually looks more curly to me and the pic of Susan Sarandon is so hard to see. Even Lorraine's pics of the different types in her book had me confuzzled. I think the wavies she showed were almost more straight. I tend to be wavy or curly depending on the usual factors (weather, products, etc.), but my "wavy" hair is much wavier than the celebs she chose or the pic of the hair curl she had. Or maybe my idea of a wavy is way off .

That said, Gretchen and Michelle - you do a wonderful job with this site!! And I keep checking out the "Makeover" section but there's nothing there yet - I love seeing makeovers!!
