laureth-23

is laureth-23 in styling products related to sles or ales? what does it do?
It is "lauryl ether-23", which means it has the 12 carbon chain that SLS has, but it has 23 ethers, rather than zero as SLS has, or the 2 that most SLES has. Thus, it is much more polar, and very gentle. It is typically used as an emulsifier in the product.
Is it water-soluable?

I just learned that laureth-23 is likely to cause acne. And that's a real shame, too - it is a main ingredient of HEBE and some of the Aussie gels, too. The HEBE was great for my hair, but bad for my skin. I guess now I know why...
