Default How often should you get your hair cut?

When you're trying to get it to grow long?

I just had mine cut last week and I was wondering how often I should go to get splits ends cut?

I get mine trimmed religiously every 8 weeks. Over a year and 1/2 ago, I started with very short hair (above my ears & in very short layers) and it's now well past my shoulders, so it still grows well with regular trimming.

If you're trying to grow it out I wouldn't cut it until it starts to lose it's shape and/or starts to get split ends. Of course, you can get trims to prevent either of these things from happening... but how often that would be depends on your hair and how fast it grows.

I get mine cut about once every 8 months, sooner if I get spit ends. I barely ever straighten or even diffuse my hair, so I can go for long stretches without cutting. Waiting so long between cuts seems to be the only way I can tell my hair is growing!

Btw, malafacha, your buddy icon scared the crap out of me! My mom just watched my dog for a week while I was on vacation and when I got her back she had fleas. I thought I got rid of them all and then I saw your icon! Thanks for the heart attack.

My hair is currently between my chin and shoulders, length-wise. It starts to loose its shape after 4 or 5 weeks. It's always done this, no matter what stylist I go to! The top layers go very quickly and the bottom hardly grows at all. I end up getting it cut about every 8 weeks.

I'm a hairstylist and in my professional opinion I would have to say, every 8 to 12 weeks depending on your hair condition. If you are prone to splits and breakage or are very dry/damaged, I'd go with 8 weeks. If your hair is healthy with little to no splits or breakage you can go longer. HTH

Thanks for all your input. I think I'll try 8 weeks and see how that goes.

It depends on your growth rate. If you have an average growth rate of half an inch per month, and you're getting a half inch taken off every 8 weeks, your prgoress will be slow. If you have a higher growth rate, you'll see more.

I'm at the two to three time a year trim right now. As long as I take care of my ends, I can go for longer periods without trims.

Depends on your hair. I wouldn't see much growth if I trimmed every 8 weeks. Before going CG, I'd get my hair cut three, maybe four times a year. Now my hair is in much better condition, my ends aren't dry or splitting, and I expect to cut it twice a year. My last cut was in early June. It's doing fine, so I think I'll get my next cut in December.

I cut them when I see a lot of splits. If there's a few here or there, I won't, but when I start seeing more and more, they will be trimmed.
