Oprah cutting Hillary Swank's hair & 100 makeovers

She's cutting it for cancer patients. She didn't say Locks of Love, but I'm assuming it is. Or another organization. Now Hillary's off to get it cut into a shape now.

I don't usually watch Oprah, but it caught my eye.

Ack. But they just straightened that strawberry-blond's beautiful curls! And the color is a bit too orange now. :P Looks like they're straightening all the curlies.

And only someone like Hillary Swank can have her hair hacked off like that and still look cute. I'd look like the bride of Frankenstein if I just took a scissor to my hair like that!

I didn't see the show, but went online & looked at the before & after shots. They were very disappointing. In many of the makeovers, it doesn't appear that the stylist attempted to work with the person's hair texture, making it unrealistic for the person to maintain that style. Several folks got extensions. I know I couldn't afford to maintain extensions.

Most (not all) of the folks looked better, in my opinion, but if a stylistic does not give you something easy to care for and that you can maintain, what good is it?

ITA with brio: how many of them will be able to recreate the look on their own

I thought the girl with the curly hair looked better before, they should have worked with her natural hair texture instead of trying to straighten it. I'm sorry but I thought that after red hair looked like a bad wig

I taped it and was annoyed the whole time I was watching it.

I Tivo'd this and watched it yesterday with my DH and one of my daughters. We were amazed at how awful the "after" styles/color were!!

On top of that, not enhancing their own hair texture really annoyed me. And I agree with someone else in this thread, most of those styles were unrealistic for everyday and will be really hard to maintian...

I wonder if Oprah will get a lot of letters on this one....
3A (I think)

Loving my curls after all these years -- but still trying to figure out what works for me...
I was just disappointed. Has anyone gone to her website to see the rest of the cuts-I have not.

I hear ya curly sisters.

I was very hopeful when I saw the curly-haired blond. My mouth dropped open when I saw what she ended up with. There wasn't anything natural about that look. I was hoping that they would have given her a good cut and worked with her hair.

I got the impression that the stylists were going for the jaw-dropping change in appearance ... NOT ... for what was necessarily best for some of the women. Anyone who has that much curl in her hair will be doing some heavy duty maintenance ... and I'm not even going to touch what it will be doing for the condition of her hair ... Why not work with what you have ...

In reality, the approach the stylists took really went against what Oprah's shows tend to preach ... I didn't see any 'self-acceptance' or make the most of what you've got ... in any of those looks.

Mind you ... did you see the cave man guy ... OMG ... too yummy, why would he hide underneath all of that hair ...
Type: 3a fine & dense, with normal porosity, terrible product junkie

Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!

That woman with the blond curls... I didn't mind the color, but maybe that's just because I'm a bottle redhead myself. I hated the way they straightened her hair. I guess they were going for the WOW factor, but what good is it for all those women who will have such a hard time maintaining it?

I hope Oprah got a lot of letters asking about where all the natural curls went. I sent her one just a couple of minutes ago.
"There is such a thing as natural beauty, but every woman needs a little help to bring it out."
WOW! I just took a lot at some of the makeovers online and boy are they AWFUL!!!! I'm in shock! Especially how they turned just about every curly into a straightie! The curlies definitely looked better when they were curly. I'm disgusted.
