Default Awful hair day -- what happened?

After a week or so of really awesome hair, my curls kind of crapped out on me today. Want to help me figure out why? ):

Last night I overnight'd with Ojon RT in my hair. I slept with a beanie hat on, since that's the most comfortable way to completely cover my hair in my sleep (sleeping on a towel just tangles it up). This morning, I shampooed with TJ Refresh and noticed that my hair felt really stripped afterwards. Conditioned with AOHR, left in some SheaM, styled with CK and HEBE and SiF. Now that my hair is dry, the curls are undefined, limp, and frizzy. My top layers especially look quite pathetic. Hair does not feel as soft as it usually does.

Is it the shampoo? I haven't used CK in a couple weeks; did it suddenly start to hate me? Was the Ojon a bad idea? Everything else has been in my hair every day for a few weeks, so I can't imagine they're the culprit.

It's a good thing it's cold out, so I can wear a hat. ):

I'd guess it's the Ojon....it's great stuff but it can leave your hair limp if your hair doesn't need that kind of intensive moisture treatment. Try shampooing again and going with the least amount of products you can get away with it and I'll bet it will be back to normal tomorrow.

I guess I'm just confused, since I've used the Ojon before and my hair loved it. My hair also seems to soak up oils, and shampooing today made me feel like I had completely reversed the moisture treatment. I haven't had major problems with the TJ refresh poo in the past, but today it lathered up way more than usual and made my hair feel dangerously squeaky.

Have you been shampooing more than normal? Sometimes if I shampoo more than I usually do, my hair turns into a big ol' crapfest!

No, I've been sticking to my once-a-week routine. Once a week, the morning after I do my once-a-week Ojon treatment.

i have this problem all the time! products that you normally use and love just don't do it all of a sudden. So, sorry, no help. just wanted to let you know i feel your pain!

My normal once a week shampoo's have been ruining my hair lately. Maybe it's because of the cooler weather.

this article is currently posted on the NC home page, about why products stop working. this is the exact reason why i believe in rotating products.

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe I'll lay off for now... or invest in a more moisturizing cleanser.

I just wish we could find something that worked and stick with it. Half the time I dont know what is working and what isnt because I am always throwing something else into the mix. Now based upon that article I should be doing that. So confused.

I hear ya, it would be nice to be able to stick with one thing, but I do notice build up if I use the same product all the time. Right now I am using Devacurl, but once a week I use something new or different, this gives me a chance to keep experimenting.

It's just a mystery.....whenever I think I have the perfect routine worked out my hair always rebels and let's me know that I'm not in charge. Maye you just need to mix it up a bit or try an even milder shampoo for awhile.

Good luck....you have absolutely gorgeous hair by the way,

Michelle

Hey MB, good to see you on the boards again, was wondering where you've been.

Mystery - I always thought TJ Nourish had proteins (am I wrong?) and you're protein sensitive, right? I had to give up my EMBS and EMBC because of those pesky proteins.

How often are your DT'ing? Since you've been very good to your curls lately, you might not need to DT as often. I went from a weekly DT to a monthly.

HTH, keep us posted!

TJ Nourish does have proteins, but I'm using Refresh, which is protein-free. I spent a lot of time feeling around the area of my hair that seemed to crap out, and it did feel oily. Maybe the weekly thing isn't so necessary for me.

I haven't been able to shower since then (went on a marching band trip to Cornell and just got back!), but I'm going to do so tomorrow morning. I wonder what would happen if I mixed a little of my shampoo with my VO5 co-wash condish? I want to make sure my hair is perfectly clean, but I'm afraid of drying it out.

Just try a co wash tomorrow and see what happens. Skip the poo unless you feel like you've got build up.

I don't know why I'm giving you suggestions, you're the one with the rockin' curls!
