Argh

Ok, so back in May I got this really awesome (and by awesome, I mean stupid) idea to relax my hair. My friend said that she would help, as she loves to do hair, and has always cut/colored my hair for me and has always done a good job. Dumb me decides to go and buy a drugstore relaxer. It was supposed to last for 6 weeks. It cost $10. This should have been a warning sign.
Anyway, we relaxed my hair, and it looked decent. Kind of dry, but not too bad. But it did a LOT of damage to the ends of my hair, and I ended up having to cut about 3 inches off of my barely shoulder length (when straight) hair. That was all well and good, I was straightening my hair everyday and liked it. Of course after about a month, I got tired of having to spend 30-60 minutes a day doing my hair (mind you I was used to just putting some mousse in and letting it air dry).
When I stopped straightening it, my hair wasnt curly (as I expected) but wavy. Not a pretty wavy. Like this strange s shaped stringy flat thing. So I just sucked it up, and let it grow out. It has been months now, and my hair is still not back to normal. I recently cut it all off again (I am hopelessly addicted to the scissors) thinking that it would make my hair curl better having some weight off. But it is still all weird.
I have tried all manner of curl boosting products, and nothing has helped.
Have I done permanent damage to my hair? Or do I just have to wait it out for it to grow out some more?

Ha sorry that I wrote a freaking novel here.

I had a similiar experience about a year and half ago and I'm still doing damage control - it will take a while for it to grow out. I had mine cut to a pixie and grew it from there, which I would NOT recommend. I just freaked out and made the situation worse.

It will just take time and patience. There is no magic bullet - just don't do anything drastic while you get frustrated in the interim, it will only make matters worse.
2b (a fine 'n porous wavy)...and finally growing out :-)

Wash: Deva Low-poo
Condish and leave in: OneC or Suave Coconut

Styler: Angell or the Deva foam, sometimes KKKC

Etc: Set It Free as a refresher

Protien: Looking for one

I love hairspray...don't judge
Damaged....you'll need to baby your curls for a while. Read through the CG thread juicy posted above. Find yourself a rich deep conditioning treatment and start doing it once a week. It's expensive but a favorite around here is Ojon Restorative Treatment. You can pick up a sample at Sephora. Shampoo less and condition more. Here's a website that lists silicone and protein free products (I've found it very useful n my curly journey) http://healthycurls.awardspace.com/index.html

Keep those ends trimmed and you will see results. HTH and good luck!
