DEVACURL - What Am I Doing Wrong ??

I know this has been mentioned somewhere on this site, but I couldn't find anything recent, so I thought I would bring it up again in the hopes that someone could share their wisdom with me.

I have been trying to get the Arc Angell and/or Angell to work for me and it just isn't happening.

I got really excited one day, because it worked. It hasn't happened since.

I know that you have to use a lot of it; I think I have been doing that. Here is the routine I have been doing: co-wash with OneCond, B-Leave In, ArcAngell (have also used Angell), scrunched with microfibre towel and then diffuse or air dry. I usually end off with SIF

The day I got the good results I air dried, but my hair takes too long to dry to do that every time I use it.

What am I doing wrong. I'm wondering if it is the B-Leave In .. or if I should be using RR or CK underneath the gel. PLEASE HELP I really want to get the results that I got that once again, but I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Thanks fellow curlies
Type: 3a fine & dense, with normal porosity, terrible product junkie
ROUTINE: LI, enhancer, gel, plop with Curlease towel, serum product (either CIAB or Gel-les'c), clip & diffuse.
Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!
I use low poo but the rest of my routine is similar to yours.

But:
I always leave a little One C in my hair. I do not rinse it all the way out.

I noticed that you scrunch with the microfiber towel and then apply product. I just squeeze the water out while still in the shower and then apply the styling products to my hair, scrunching it in while my hair is flipped over.

I'll try to put the product in when it is really wet ... Do you air dry or diffuse. I know that ideally I should air dry, but my hair takes forever to dry and I hate to go to work with wet hair. I am not able to get 2nd day hair.

Do you use a microfibre towel at all? I'm just wondering how you go from dripping hair ???

Hi there,
I would try eliminating the b'leave in and see if that helps. I don't know what it is but that product made my hair like straw and i know others have said the same. You can use some OneC as a leave in instead. Also I have better luck with a curleaze (birds eye cotton) towel, the mf towel has a velcroish effect on my hair and gives me frizz. HTH
3A; I have HG products!
Curl enhancer: Mop-C curl cream
DT: Deva Heaven in Hair; JC WDT
Gel: B&A; Arc Angel
Conditioner: Deva OneC; JC too shea
Frizz fighters: CK, JCS C&S
PW: curlynow
I also have a similar routine, except I use No Poo as my CO-wash. I tried CO-washing with just OneC for several weeks, and my husband had to point out that I was always wet-looking on top - I realized I had buildup and that I was over-conditioned. Believe it or not, over-conditioned hair looks frizzy and makes you think you need more moisture! Now I use No Poo every time I wash, and my hair seems to be pretty consistent. As far as the B'leave-in, I've never used it because OneC makes such a great leave-in. Some here have suggested that the strawlike effect is caused by the proteins in B'leave-in. I'd recommend replacing the B'leave-in with a bit of OneC left in, and maybe try the No Poo if you can get ahold of it. I second the suggestion to apply products to soaking wet hair - that works for me and encourages good clumping.

Hope this helps!

I third the advice, don't use b leave in. I don't get the best results with it. It causes frizz. I also wash over the sink to encourage more curl and I go to bed with wet hair for drying. It is great in the am. ALso, I put all the products in wet hair and scrunch with a microfiber towel. When I was using no poo, I only used it once a week as recommended by Vida at Devachan. I switched now to Jesicurl HCC. I find it more moisturizing and it doesn't create that crunced up residue on top. It works for me.
Hair type, thin, 3b, past my shoulders always looking for length. Use jessicurl hair cleansing cream, devacurl one c, angel, set it free, Always see a deva trained stylist for cut and Aveda Institute for color.

As to drying, I dry with a bowl diffuser for about ten minutes and then let the rest air dry. By the time I get to work, I can do a quick scrunch with my palms without losing the curl. The trick is to not touch until it's dry. The ten minutes of diffusing seems to set the curls in place.

I also suggest leaving out the B'Leave-In. I personally don't use it every day but I do notice much tighter curls when I use it. Others say it makes their hair feel dry after using it for a while.

From what you've said, I wonder if maybe you're over handling your hair when it's wet? Maybe if you talked to the curlies in the 2c or 3a forum they can offer more suggestions. Good luck!

Thank you for all your great advice. I will try it again without the B-Leave In ... I also think I am guilty of touching it too soon.
If I find a routine that gets good results, I'll post it.
Thank god for this website, the advice you get here would cost you a fortune, if you could even find someone to give it
