So... Deva Clips or Duckbill Clips?

I didn't know which to buy during the Thanksgiving CurlMart sale, so I didn't buy any. I thought I'd wait for answers & buy them during the next sale.

I've figured out the following, but wonder if that's all the difference between the two; does one work better than the other?

Duckbill Clips are long
Duckbill Clips bend for better manipulation
Duckbill Clips are metal
Duckbill Clips fall over for some people
Duckbill Clips are silver & if left in accidentally they don't blend into the hair
Duckbill Clips are inexpensive

Deva Clips are short
Deva Clips don't bend for manipulation
Deva Clips are plastic
Deva Clips are available in three hair colors so if left in accidentally they're supposed to blend into the hair
Deva Clips aren't cheap
I have both and I think I actually like the Deva clips better. I have to use more, but they don't fall over and end up doing nothing like I've experienced with the Duckbill clips. I also find that they slide in and out of the hair better than the Duckbills. The Duckbills are long and can cover more area, but it doesn't do much good if they fall over and don't hold. I have a lot of thick hair on the top so that probably plays into to it, too.

You should go to Sally Beauty if you have one in your area. They have a huge selection of clips, and the prices are so low. I have been playing around with different sets. Right now I am loving the Salon Care brand, they are plastic and come in a package of about 12, maybe more. There is one row of pink and one of purple in the package, and they were less than $2. I would link you to a pic, but I can't get on the Sally website right now. But, you can search the site, they have a whole section devoted to clips. Good luck!
I prefer the deva clips. They are plastic and don't snag in my hair the way the duckbill clips do.

I'll give Sally Beauty Supply a look for these. Thanks.

Do they specifically say "duckbill clips"? I have no idea what to look for if they don't because everything starts looking the same after standing there in bewilderment for 5 minutes.

I bought some butterfly clAMPs from Sally's years ago, but the teeth snagged something awful when it came time to remove them. Some of the teeth finally started snapping off recently so I tossed the good clips in a charity bag & haven't been using anything since.
I can't use the duckbill clips. They snag horribly in my hair. I've never had a problem with deva clips - and I have inadvertently left one in my hair a couple of times before but because it was brown, it didn't really matter all that much.
Variation of 3B/3C curls.

Amazed that I finally found a method that works for my hair! Diffuse until 60-70% dry, then let air dry for about an hour. Scrunch and leave it alone!

Deva clips rock! I struggled with the duckbill clips for about six weeks before discovering the Deva clips. As just about everyone here has said, the metal duckbill clips fall over and slip out, even if you barely move around. I really love the Deva clips and also have sometimes left them in without much worry, since they blend in so well.

But yeah, they're ridiculously expensive and if Sally's has anything comparable, by all means buy them. The advantage of Deva clips, though, is that they come in colors that blend with hair *and* they come in a little container, which is nice for travel.

Well, if hubby drives me there tomorrow & I can't find anything that resembles Deva Clips, I'm just going to wait for the next sale & buy them then. The blond would be too light & the red would be too bright. I'll go with brown since my roots are more that color anyhow.

Thanks!

ETA: I searched on-line & found the new Deva Clips. Without the Deva name stamped in them, they're called Single Prong Pin Curl Clips.

I can get them at any of several local beauty supplies in plastic multi bright colors, in a box of 100.

Sally's only has them in metal, in packages of 12. They also have a similar clip called "multi-purpose". They have them in metal & plastic. The plastic is in pink & purple. Both types are in a package of 12.

Whatever happened to the original Deva Clips? http://www.misikko.com/devacurl-deva-clips.html These are just Double Prong Pin Curl Clips & they're available at Sally's.

OK, so I bought the metal ones at Sally's. Now, how do I use them? Remember, I've only used Butterfly Clamps before & the Deva clips thing is new to me!
There is a thread here somewhere where people posted pictures of their clipping... i'll look for it.

BTW one more difference be careful because the metal clips get hot when using a blow dryer.

So, note to self, let them cool down before removing!

And if metal doesn't work out for me, due to heat issues, & maybe flopping over issues, I'd better hunt down those salon supply places & buy the plastic type!
I have clipping pics in my fotki and so does marybeth.

Awesome! Thanks!

This should not be hard at all.

By the way, does anyone/everyone use a setting lotion as suggested in the link I provided about the original Deva clips?
I just use gel or whatever product I'm using that day.

OK. Thanks!

I have Lotta Body Setting Lotion to use up anyhow so I put it in my new Sally's spray bottle!
I tried it with hairspray (non-alcohol of course) & the clips weren't hard to use & weren't as hot as I thought they'd be. It seems to have worked fine for building volume on the roof!

Thanks everyone!
I happened to be at the public/private salon supply that carries the Marianna plastic single and double prong pin curl clips.

I looked at both. They are a weak hold & I think you would need a box of 100 because they look cheap, like they'd break so easy.

I'll stick with my metal ones.
