Oprah's "Great American Haircut" 2

I was incredibly disappointed to see all of the beautiful curls be straightened.

I don't understand why they wouldn't work with this woman's beautiful Curls.

There are many more examples of curls being straightened here:

It's just so sad!
Oh my, that's just wrong. Why obliterate her natural color and curls, which are very pretty to begin with? Now she'll have to spend a small fortune on maintaining a very unnatural haircolor every 4-6 weeks. It's too bad they didn't give her a trim that makes use of her natural hair texture.

Grrrr....silly people.
2C top/3A&B underneath. Activate Hydrating Conditioner, Jessicurl products.
Call me crazy, but I think the color looks good. I love red hair and think that with the color and the curls here hair will be amazing!

I think it's annoying that all shows straighten curls, but the point is to have a dramatic before & after and that's probably easier with curlies just because you can make it straight and that's already a big change.

I do wish though that sometimes they would have at least one curly after. I get inspiration for styles and such seeing other curlies.

Ah well.. at least her color looks good.
3B with some 3a. Fell off but am now back on the CG bandwagon and looking for my HG products.
She looks scary in the after pic. Her hair looks very big, brassy, and blowfried.
Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. I sat at a table where were rich food and wine in abundance, and obsequious attendance, but sincerity and truth were not;
and I went away hungry from the inhospitable board.

THIS SUCKS i think she looked better before--instead of teaching her to accentuate her beautiful curls they gave her something which she will never be able to maintain without killing her hair.
BLURB FROM WEBSITE
She says she had the same long, curly hairstyle for years. "My hair has pretty much been the same length for most of my life, and it's always been pretty frizzy," she says. "It can go curly and I can never really get it nice and straight. So I was always hesitant to get it cut short because it might get crazy."

Stylist Ted Gibson doesn't hesitate to make a big change—he gives her a sleek, straight, shoulder-length 'do. "I can't believe how different I look. I feel like a different person," Virginia says. "I think all the time I was kind of hiding behind my hair, and now it's pretty hair. I don't want to hide behind it."

I knew I could come here and find people with whom I could commiserate. I was about ready to throw something at my TV by the end of tonight's Oprah, especially when they showed the girl with the blond curls whom they turned into a straight-haired redhead.

Even the stylist who did her hair admitted that her day-to-day would not be as dramatic as the day of the show. She's going to have a hard time trying to keep that length of hair straight.

I feel that the show did a huge disservice by not having a few of the makeovers keep natural styles.
How incredibily aggravating. If they wanted to give her a change, why didn't they cut her hair for a shorter style? I don't like the color change and it really bugs me when they do these makeovers that are not easily maintained at home without the services of a stylist. Her curls looked good to me, IMO she just needed a haircut and maybe a little darker color ( but not the color they gave her).
I have 3A hair. I've discovered Jessicurl shampoo and Too Shea conditioner and I'm thrilled! Long-time LA Looks sport gel user.
Pretty mediocre results overall.

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.
Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.
wtf More than half the women were pretty 2s, 3s, and 4s, and almost all of them were straightened. Oprah needs to do a CG version of this show.
I don't get the popularity of the straight hair with big block bangs look.
I do think this one looks really cute... (not a curly)

I love curly hair just as much as, if not more than, anyone on this board. But that woman was a wreck in the before pic...sorry to say. She looks a million times better in the after pic IMO. They did what they had to do.
3b (with 3c tendencies) on modified CG

I was hanging window treatments in my kitchen when this was on. I don't have a TV, but my neighbor has a yoooge one [my friend calls these kinds of TVs "Lord God TV" ]. So I could see it through the window easily while I was working away.

I saw the woman in the OP come on with her huge blow-out and immediately thought, "Oh boy, the curlies are going to have something to say about this!"

I agree with some that she looks better in the after. BUT, they could've totally done a curly makeover with the red color and that probably would have been stunning, actually.
I think that the smiling and makeup in the second picture play a big role in why she looks better.

If they would have put makeup on her, had her smile, gave her a cute curly cut, and maybe a new color, I think she would have looked even better!

In the first picture the woman looks beyond miserable, in the second she looks better because she's smiling and looks happy - but that doesn't stop the after hair looking like a wig.
Fat does not make you fat. It's actually pretty important.

Her hair does look poor in the before pic, no doubt. They should have made her look like this:

I think most of these stylists don't know how to deal with curly hair so they do what they know - straight hair! And I bet a lot of the makeovers that said they tamed the curls to waves used curling irons or blow outs with a round brush.

Fine, 3A, but a lot of it.

I was looking at those pictures again and she looks older with the red straight hair.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that girl's bathroom when she tries to blow out her hair week after week.
