my new clumping method *updated w/ pics
i've figured out this great way to encourage clumping and curl formation, so i thought i'd share! (note: this will probably only work for medium to long hair lengths, and hair that needs a lot of product applied).
after doing the normal shower things, i rinse my hair and begin to apply products upside down. i apply a big glob of some product that helps with clumping (for me, this is LOOB). i smooth it in. The I apply two medium sized globs of gel to make sure that it is evenly distributed throughout my hair. with my head still upside down, after my hair feels really slimy because of the products, i begin to twist all of my hair together into one big curl that is held together by the wetness and stickiness of product. I twist clockwise because that is the way all of my curls form. (In my head, I've been calling this my unicorn method ) So then i put my one big twisted curl into a plop (lol that sounds weird) and after a while i diffuse. To diffuse, if the one big curl doesn't separate on its own, I GENTLY separate it into three or four pieces and diffuse upside down using the Pixie curl method. When I flip my hair back up, the big chunks separate even more, leaving me with a bunch of clumpy curls.
I do have to fix my roots and some of the curls because of having it upside down for so long, but thats the only bad part.
No pics yet, maybe i will get some up within the next week or so.
If anyone wants to try it, i'd be interested in if this works for anyone else!

shellynot -
i do something similar to this, but i take large, clumped sections and twist individually while upside down.... so I need to try what you suggested!!!! THat would minimize my time working on the curls...
there is something about the slicking and clumping that also makes my texture incredibly SOFT
i will let you know how the "Unicorn" method goes for me!
i don't usually diffuse (maybe i need to practice...) so i may modify how it do it just a little...

so i tried it out - i think i need more practice.... I think this method would be great for 2's - 3a-ers especially -
I got well defined shiny curls, but got lots of shrinkage... HOWEVER - i think that may have been partly from the product (used Alagio curl balm - WOOOOOWEEEE made me sooooo much curlier (not usually the look i go for.... but fun for a day!)

so i made a fotki album from my hair today using this method... it looked way good before the weather took its toll on my hair when i was out shopping today... (rain and wind storm. i was proud of how well it held up thogh! for real, like 25 mph winds) hmf. but you get the general idea!! i've found that the more i practice, the more i get these great, define banana curls. probably not the favorite look for everyone, but i'm pumped.
(fotki album is called clumping method, fyi)

WOW your hair looks fantasticm I'm going to give this a try. The only thing im worried about is the frizz i've been prone to lately on the crown area, havent figured out why thats happening yet.
Also... would you mind if i brought one of those pictures into the hair salon with me so I can show her the length i'm looking for? I posted a few weeks ago asking curlies with 3a/b with short hair pictures and yours is pretty much exactly what im looking for.

shellynot - I am going to try this again soon since seeing your results pics.... awesome clumps!!!
I think I was getting all that curl separation/shrinkage from the Alagio curl balm i tried when unicorn-ing. I will try it with my CK first and then my KCCC and see how those go.
this could work out some much quicker than the individual clumping that i have been doing lately...
and quick question, are you rinsing upside down too? and then applying product globs? or are you upright with soaking wet hari and then bend over to put product in...? thanks!

THANKS so much everyone
banjo...i will attempt to take a picture of it unicorned.... still contemplating the best, least painful and least camara-damaging way of doing this... (my hands get REALLY slippery after applying product) but i will try tomorrow because i did second day hair today.
parasol - pixie method is summed up in the second post on this thread:
http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlta...xiecurl+method
notinabottle - sure you can take my picture! (i have never been asked that and i feel quite flatterered
anxious to see if it works for anyone else!
