Question How to set up PayPal for receiving money?

I tried to do this one time before, but PayPal wanted to charge me for receiving money.

If you have a personal account (the default), you can receive money, but not credit card payments. If you want to be able to accept credit card payments you have to upgrade to a Premier account, but with this you will be charged to receive ALL types of payments.

Hi lazyloops,

As long as the person trying to send you money has your email address (that you use for PayPal), you're all set up to receive money. No need to do anything from here .

I meant to add: as no hero just said, you will be charged a small fee for receiving money unless you're a premier account. But as far as the mechanics of how to receive money, you're all set once you've set up your email.

OK, so they DO charge anyhow? That's what I thought! I wonder how much that is.

I was just looking at my account & was confused by this:

Quote:
Limits on your account

For security reasons, there are initial limits on the amount of money you can send, receive, and withdraw from your PayPal account. Its easy to lift these limits simply verify your bank account or card information.
Type of Limit Limit Remaining Action Receiving limit (monthly) $500.00 USD $500.00 USD Debit or credit card acceptance limit * 5 Transactions 5 Transactions Your monthly receiving and withdrawal limits are reset every month on the anniversary of when you opened your account. Your account was opened on
What do these limits mean?
Receiving limit: The maximum amount you can receive before you must upgrade to a Business or Premier account. This limit is reset every month. Receiving limits apply only to the following payment types: eBay Items, Auction Goods (non-eBay), and other Goods. No other payment types affect your receiving limit.
Debit or credit card acceptance limit:
As long as you are within your monthly receiving limit, you can accept up to two debit or credit card payments per year at our low per transaction rate.
If you upgrade to a Premier or Business account, you will enjoy many exclusive features not offered with Personal accounts.

The fees are: 1.9% to 2.9% + $0.30 USD and the % range depends on how much money you are receiving.

To give you an example of how much they charge, A few months ago someone sent me $100 through PayPal and PP charged $4.20.

Wow. But I guess they have to make their money somewhere & nothing is ever free. If it were I'm sure there would be pop-ups & flashing ads all over the site.

Do you adjust your charge(s) accordingly, to make up for the fee?

The ONLY time I've been charged to receive $$ through PP is when receiving a Credit Card payment. As long as the person is paying you through their regular checking acct, it should be free for both of you.

With free accounts, free payments into your account are for existing funds or bank account funds only. You pay to receive debit and charge card funds. Paypal allows may be 4-5 free credit/debit transactions in a free account.
