weird bumps from deva clips

I use mousse at my roots and after scrunching in mousse along the lengths I put in deva clips along the part line. I usually pull up a clump of hair along each side of the part and then clip it. Then I diffuse upside down. When I take the clips out it seems flat right at the part and then goes up in a weird arc where the clip was. I went to devachan for a styling lesson, and this is how they showed me to put the clips in, but it didn't come out like this in the salon. Anyway, I feel if I use no clips my hair will just be too flat on top, but I don't know how to fix this. Is there a different/better way to put in these clips? Should I not use any product at the roots? (I believe in the salon they didn't put any gel at my roots). Am I leaving the clips in too long? I have fine hair and need some lift up top. Thanks.

I'm thinking you're leaving them in too long. If I leave clips in until my hair is dry, I get creases where the clips were. Try taking them out when your hair is still damp. It's a fine balancing act to leave them in long enough that the damp roots don't get weighed down while drying, but not so long that they leave marks.
