haircut help

my hair is a little past shoulder length when dry, and one of my major problems for as long as i can remember has been trying to get a cut that reduces bulk and doesnt leave me with "pyramid head"...so far, no cut has been able to achieve this for me, and i was wondering if you guys had any tips. the only way i've found to reduce the pyramid effect is to clip the top, but sometimes i'd like to wear it all down. for the record, i have A TON of hair, pretty sure it's primarily 3b with other random bits.

Hi, I'm Dominican too and my hair is pretty bulky and thick. I wear it half up/half down almost all the time because I also suffer from pyramid head.
How is your hair cut now? From what I've read on here, getting some long layers cut into your hair can help to give it more shape and reduce the pyramid effect. My prob is finding someone who can do it correctly. The last lady I went to did a good job of cutting the layers into the back but cut my side layers way too short so I went from looking like a pyramid head to looking like a christmas tree head! It's taken me months to grow those very short layers out and now I'm afraid to get it cut again.
3b/c fine, thick, porous, protein sensitive
Modified CG, CJ Rehab, JCWDT, KCKT, VO5 Chamomile Tea Therapy, CJDF, HEBE Gel/Mousse, Bioinfusion Rosemary Mint shampoo, occasional protein

Experimenting with BRHG

well i got my hair cut in august and i specifically asked my stylist for a cut that would look good curly and straight, but i still can't avoid the pyramid! i'd say my hair is a pretty uniform length now. i'm scared of layers bc i feel like they'd make it worse.

I am a 2c w/spirals underneath! 35 years old with 85% white hair. I am currently using DevaOne everyday with No Poo. I am using Smooth N Shine Gel Conditioner Extra-Hold on my course hair and it works awesome for 3 bucks. I found putting Color Magic into my hair color really covers the gray well.
I agree with Kaiser. I got a Deva cut in Houston for $65 - worth every penny, and cheap by some standards. I got it back in September and my locks are just now looking like they need a little attention. If you can find a deva-trained person in your area, go to them. I can assure you they probably won't be as expensive as going to Devachan, and you'll be really happy with the results AND get to keep your length!!

unfortunately, there are no deva trained stylists in the nashville area (or in tennessee for that matter)...i might try the long layers suggestion, though i feel like it could leave it worse...i'll have to think about it. thanks to everyone for your suggestions though!

ugh, just wanted to update on my situation...i live in a small town, go to school in a larger city however...really really need a cut, but i'm just scared to make it worse! i call places around here and everyone says that all of their stylists are trained to cut curly hair, but obviously they say that bc they want to make money...grr...sorry i'm just frustrated. i'm not sure if i should just get it cut, or wait until the summer when i might be in nyc.
